The Giver teaches Jonas to have courage, and throughout the story it vividly explains that The Giver has trust towards Jonas and he believes in him. When Jonas was in a rough situation The Giver always gave him wise words of wisdom and he helped him understand the memories of the past. Also toward the end of the novel when Jonas was forced to flee the community The Giver gave him courage to do the right thing and cross "The Boundary".
