We both had our big groups of friends but had a super close inner circle from the group which was pretty cool to learn. 

I hoped to learn more about how she thought high school was and how her life as a teenager was similar or different to my life. I was able to hear how she was when she was my age and see how similar we are. This makes me want to think about how much I always question the things she gets so strict about me doing but she is always just trying to protect me. She gives me curfews, rules, and lectures but I know she’s only trying to protect me from the things she knows can potentially hurt me, just like the drama she faced in high school.

That’s definitely a lesson that’s very relevant for everyone. Carrying forward from the conversation, I’m definitely much more aware of how she has actually experienced most of the things I’m experiencing right now. I always think she doesn’t understand me or the drama high school comes with, but she knows it all too well. I would always dismiss her and tell her that she doesn’t even know my friend. Shortly after, this friend would betray me and my mom was able to tell me, “I told you so” and I didn’t understand how my mom could tell. With her experiences through high school and college, she was able to tell who is genuine and who isn’t because of how many people she had to deal with.
