Cactuses don't need water they create their own sugar and they store water inside of them.Some plants don' t need anything to live.
Roses don't need soil they need the sun.
1 Put the seeds on or under the ground.
2 put water on it .
3 watch it grow.
I would water it every day and make sure that the soil is good and a little wet.
   Put it outside and don't water it or put soil on it. Leave it overnight and see what happens ,that is what I would do.

To test if a plant needs sunlight, I would follow these steps.
1. Place a seed in a bag with water and a paper towel. Do this 3 times.
2. Put one of the seed bags in a dark room.
3. Put one of the seed bags in a lighted classroom.
4. Put the last seed bag in the sunlight.
5. This way, we will see if all of them grow the same.
