Despite the clear advantages of family members running a family business, others think this may have negative consequences. According to Wang and Ahmed (2009), running a family business puts members under constant pressure. A family member may have other interests that are not in line with the family business. This could have a direct negative impact on the business as it may lead to bad decision-making and not putting the right people in the right place. In addition, the business may lose profit on the long run as a result of the diverging interests of a family member and the business. Therefore, running a family business may not always be the best option available.

However, there are some that claim that a family-run business has many issues. According to Wang and Ahmed (2009, p.22), there is a pressure on future generations to maintain these businesses which could build resentment among some family members. Furthermore, if some of these members have their own personal plans that do not align with the family business this could lead to tensions amongst more loyal members. Moreover, if these family members are managers, they make poor decisions which could lead negative team moral and potentially a loss of profits. In addition, if these members are employees, they would likely have their contracts terminated. In summary, family-run businesses could lead to a lack of team morale, loss of profits and tensions amongst other family members.

However, there are claims that family-run businesses have many issues which could affect their success in negative ways. One of the things that build resentment among family members who own a business is when a family member of the new generation is not interested while they are pressed to keep the business running, (Wang and Ahmed, 2009, p.22). Furthermore, poor team morale could occur if the family member made poor decisions or practices poor management activity. Likewise, poorly managed teams by a family member can lead to a loss of profits for the family business. Therefore, there could be issues in running a family business that needs to be considered while managing such kind of business to improve the outcomes and avoid loss.
