A while before this moment, I remember having to evacuate to Texas because of an incoming hurricane. When I first learned about Eta coming to Florida, I definitely remember becoming anxious and paranoid of having to leave the state again. What scary times!

Before the pandemic, I had a few friends in person. These friends included Lucas, Alessandro, Rolando, Kaleb, and a few others. I spoke with them during school time but rarely contacted them out of school. The only friends I spoke with when I was not in school were Ethan Sands, Mithil Khosa, Arkady Gurevich, and Gregory Chapman. Even though I spoke with them, we didn’t meet or speak often. Additionally, before I was placed in quarantine, I often procrastinated at home and became very bored very easily. After the pandemic first started, however, Sal, one of my in-person friends, introduced me to one of my best friends today, Gian Carlo Segebre. From there, I was introduced to many more friends virtually. We stayed up late and played a lot. Because of quarantine, I was enjoying my life much more. Furthermore, when the summer came, I became very focused and stopped delaying doing homework since the urge to play with my friends began to motivate me. This act of doing my work on time and as fast as possible has continued all throughout the school year and has led me to much better grades. I greatly underestimated the coronavirus and didn’t think anything would happen. When my father first told me that there was a covid-19 case in Florida, I thought that the patient would be quickly treated and that our cases would go back down to zero. As time has shown, however, I could not have been more wrong. I underestimated how quickly the disease could spread and overestimated the nation’s ability to control the virus. I remember when my family and I were sitting down at our circular table while eating and my father said that the coronavirus would not go away for at least two years.To begin with, my brother immediately responded by stating that he believed that this whole quarantine lockdown would be under control by my birthday, August 11th. He additionally said that, if worst comes to worst, it could potentially last until his birthday, December 2nd. I was already surprised and didn’t want to be very wrong again, so I said that coronavirus would last until 2021. Furthermore, my brother and I agreed that there would be a functional vaccine by the end of October, but we were again proved wrong. My dad bought hundreds upon hundreds of face masks as well as hand sanitizer containers. He even bought some of those foam dispensers that are placed at the entrances of doors because he was paranoid. Well, to be fair, my father has a lot of health issues, meaning that the virus could prove to be deadly, which is why he was so scared. When boxes arrived at the house, he would first clean it with lysol, wait 24 hours, and then finally open up the box. He constantly used gloves and even bought face protectors that look like the ones guards use. He bought hazmat suits and never left the house. Furthermore, he bought multiple non-contact infrared thermometers. If we showed any minor symptoms, he made us enclose ourselves in our rooms for hours. Today, however, much has changed. We are not as cautious because of the vaccine. We go outside of the house more often and hang out with friends and family almost every other weekend. We go to restaurants very frequently. However, we continue to wear face masks and never take them off when around a large group of people.
