To keep someone from proceeding by holding them back or making claims on their attention. This is typically for questioning about a crime in a politically sensitive situation. This is one by the prosecutor deciding if there is enough evidence or the defendant being guilty. If there were found obvious evidence, the prosecutor has to either detain the arrested person in custody. For example, if someone saw Brenda committing a crime then she will be stopped by the police and put into an inquiry. After doing that, she will be put in custody for a few days (about 3) and the prosecutor will decide if she is guilty or not. The prosecutor has 14 days to collect evidence as well as decide if the person that did the crime should be punished or not. When that is sorted out, she will either be detained in full custody or let free.

Detain is when the suspect is detained in custody, meaning the suspect is detained for further inquiry. The suspect will be locked in a cell for three days. During those three days the prosecutor is trying to find evidence of the crime. If the arrested person is to be detained in custody, the court will have a court proceeding, within four days. During the 14 days the prosecutor investigates about the defendant life (for example, job, family, economy etc) decides if he should be kept detained until the trial or not. After the 14 days the prosecutor should decide if he/she should press charges or not. After the 14 days the prosecutor finds enough information/evidence the prosecutor decides if he/she is guilty.

After the defendant has been arrested for three days the prosecutor decides if the person should be kept detained or not. This decision is made based on the evidence that the police has found on the case. If there is enough evidence agaist the defendant they will be detained in custody. Within the 14 days the defandant is detained, the prosecutor investagates the defandants life (economy, family etc). After the 14 days, the prosecutor has to decide if he/she should press charges or not. If the prosecutor finds enough information and evidence, he/she sends the case to court where they find of if the defendant is guilty or not. There has to be a court proceeding within 4 days of the person being detained to officially declare if the defendant should be kept detained or not.

E.g. people are kept detained before the trial because the prosecutor believes that the person is dangerous and might commit another crime if they're not kept detained while they wait for the trial.

The defendant is held in custody, if there is enough evidence. If the prosecutor has following evidence, the defendant is detained for fourteen days leading up to the prosecutor making a decision. Should the suspect be released or should the prosecutor press charges.

The defendant is detained because the prosecutor has enough evidence against them. Since they have enough evidence if they are let out they can do another crime or ruin existing evidence.

(Sarah and Georgina Example)

For example after three days if the prosecutor has enough evidence that Sarah was involved in the case.

Describe: Detain is to keep someone in temporary and official custody. A person is detained if the police thinks that the suspect would do the crime again. After 3 days the prosecutor decides if the suspect remains detained or not. If the prosecutor has enough evidence, there would be a trial. Now, the suspect is detained for 14 days. The prosecutor has 14 days to collect evidence.
Now that the prosecutor has enough evidence there will be a trail.
Example: If Olivia hits a person, she would be detained because she could do this again.

The prosecutor then decides if there needs to more evidence and detains the suspect for 14 days. The preliminary investigation is done during that time, where the prosecutor tries to find more evidence. The prosecutor investigates the suspects family to check if they are from a good family, the suspects friends if they are related, the suspects lifestyle to see if it's balanced and checks many more things to find some clue that the suspect is the criminal. If the prosecutor does find some then the suspect is arrested and need to wait for the trial where the decision will be made, how long the person needs to be in jail and if the person is actually a criminal or not.
