There are a possible two scenarios either Plato was lying about everything or he was telling the truth.  It was a long time ago so it is hard to find any evidence on it. But we do know for sure that it is possible. Which is what makes this case so interesting.  What I think happened is that Plato was telling the story of the island of Santorini but he over exaggerated it a bit.
