Rice is a main staple food for the whole world. Before reading this article I could not imagine any other stale food than rice. Through this article I learnt about sorghum. I would definitely eat sorghum as from the article mentioned that sorghum is very healthy and being fit and healthy it is. It is also easier to grow since it does not require to much water and in a draught it can still be produced. Since Ukraine, the largest exporter of wheat in the world, is facing war, the supply of wheat has decreased causing inflation in the prices of wheat.
Singapore does not have the best food security. Singapore's land is scarce so only 10% of the food is locally and the rest is bought from other countries. If other countries stopped selling food to Singapore, we would be in a very big crisis.
Most people think that an unhealthy diet is cheaper as junk food is much cheaper than healthy and nutritious and healthy food. This is true in most of the cases but when people who have an unhealthy diet have to go to the doctor they get shocked at the prices. The sorghum is healthy and isn't that expensive. Sorghum can change the way we live.

Most of the people in the world eats rice. From Indians ,to Chinese. I learnt more about Sorghum through the article. I eat rice every single day. No matter what, during lunch or dinner at home, there is rice on the dining table. If it was to save the environment I would obviously be willing to give up rice and start eating Sorghum. Because I the environment to clean for everybody to stay in.

Low income is typically positively correlated with the experience of food insecurity; this report reiterates that income is a persistent factor in food insecurity, with 79% of the reasons cited for food insecurity being centred on financial constraints.

Unhealthy food choices tend to be cheaper. A comprehensive review of 27 studies in 10 countries found that unhealthy food is about $1.50 cheaper per day than healthy food. If you're feeding a large family, it may cost less to simply buy from the dollar menu or purchase cheap premade frozen dinners.

Thank you for reading my post.

There is hunger in addition to food insecurity in a nation such as Singapore, as Singapore has a lack of access to adequate, safe, and nutritious food. In fact, ranked first in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit as the most food-secure nation on the Global Food Security Index in 2019, it may come as a surprise to many that even in an affluent state like Singapore, food insecurity is until this moment a concern. On top of this, over 105,000 families live in poverty. That is about one in 10 family homes, or 378,000 individuals. This is why the war in Ukraine is an enormous problem in Singapore. Ukraine is one of the biggest wheat suppliers of all nations and now that Ukraine can not supply countries with wheat, it will make wheat much more expensive, causing more hunger and poverty. That is where sorghum comes in. In spite of the fact that not everyone is familiar with sorghum, this cereal grain has been around for centuries. Sorghum belongs to the grass family Poaceae. It is small, round, and usually white or pale yellow, though some varieties are red, brown, black, or purple. Sorghum is the fifth most produced cereal crop in the world. It's rich in natural nutrients and easy to add to your diet, but its merits don't stop there. It's furthermore widely used as animal feed, and as a natural and cost-effective fuel source. You can cook this grain like quinoa or rice, mill it into flour, or pop it like popcorn. It's also converted into a syrup that's used to sweeten many processed foods. There are a lot of health benefits to eating whole grains like sorghum. In fact, sorghum is known to be rich in phenolic compounds, many of which act as antioxidants. It has also been good at reducing some forms of inflammation due to its antioxidant properties. Several of the phenolic compounds in sorghum have been linked to anti-cancer effects.

The consumption of rice for me is very important because my healthy plate consists of fruits, grains, vegetables, proteins and dairy. Since rice is part of the grains section, I think rice is important for our healthy diet. However, I would be willing to give up rice, even if it's for a short time to help the environment because I think there is a replacement which is even healthier than rice: sorghum. Sorghum is an excellent replacement as it can grow during droughts, while rice cannot grow during droughts. Sorghum also needs very little water to grow and hence, it is easily grown by farmers. But only a small-scale of farmers grow the food and sorghum is also called peasant's food. What a bad name for sorghum! Sorghum is high in protein, calcium, fibre, vitamins, and minerals such as iron. Being high in fibre means that sorghum can be digested slowly in one's stomach, so it makes one feel full for a much longer time and prevents people from overeating or snacking afterwards. That is why I would be willing to give up rice to help environment.

The consumption of rice is very important to me.Rice is my staple food which I eat every day and my life would be different without it. Rice is as well, staple food for South East Asia which people eat every day. For dinner, lunch, along with even special occasions. Giving up rice would depend on what the following staple food is and whether I like it or not, even if it was for the environment. Why? I have to admit that I'm a picky eater and may not like certain foods and tastes. Rice goes very well when prepared in certain ways and I am not sure if I would give up a big part of my diet like that. but I would consider trying sorghum before deciding if I would like to replace it as my staple food. It is also interesting that a prosperous country like Singapore still has food insecurity. but at the same time we are also a small country in southeast Asia so there are many factors that go in it. I think sorghum as the new staple food could be useful even if it's for a short term.

Recently, I saw a picture on Instagram that showed, someone making an alternative version of nasi lemak.Another reason I would give up on rice for a short period is because that I want to help the environment and try out some new food that has good nutrients in it. In Kenya, people use sorghum as porridge, in China they turn it into alcohol and popped like popcorn in India. All in all I would give up rice for a short period to help our environment.

Me, however, I am not that attached to this savoury dish, but nonetheless, I would miss the it. I eat it very regularly so it would be hard for me to let go of it. I think that rice is a staple food in aisa, let alone singapore. It would be a food crisis around the world if we all had to give up this multi grain dish. Lots of cultures around the world eat rice as the base of their diet. When I think about the world letting go of rice, i am met with the situation being impossible.

Personally, the consumption of rice is very important to me as I like rice a lot. If there is a need, I will be ready to give up eating rice for the wellbeing of the environment for a short period of time. During this period, I can consume other foods. Some examples include rye, oat, proso, barley, quinoa, etc. I would consume sorghum, as it can grow in harsh conditions. Sorghum is quite good for health. It can be turned into a lot of things. In Kenya, sorghum is eaten as porridge and in China, sorghum turned into drinking alcohol. In India, it is popped like popcorn. Sorghum has a lot of uses and is a part of people's diets all around the world. Sadly, around the world, sorghum has a bad name just because it is grown and eaten by small-scale farmers. The grain is considered by many to be food for peasants who cannot afford anything else. This problem is now being overcomed in Indonesia. Its government is urging farmers to grow sorghum to reduce the country's reliance on rice and wheat. In Indonesia, there are mostly droughts or too much rain, so there is difficulty growing rice and wheat there.

I enjoy eating rice, but I wouldn't mind changing my diet. Although it will be hard to change my diet, I think it is for the better, because sorghum is like rice. It just costs less. I do not think that we need rice to survive, but a lot of people in Asia eat rice and the majority of people in the world eat rice, so it would take a bit, but I think people may change their diet from rice to sorghum so the poor can afford something to eat. Changing your diet will help the environment and will not cost a lot. I hope the world will change its diets in a few years. If the world changes their diets.

Because of the floods and droughts. Therefore they use sorghum as a replacement but since they are made in low farm sources they have a bad name they are called peasant food because of this problem people think that people who eat this are poor .Either way thier still encourage the people.

Eating rice is important for me, it is tasty and is used in many foods. More than eighty percent of the foods we eat in singapore are common with rice such as famous cuisines including chicken rice, nasi lemak, briyani and so much more. If it were to help the environment by me not eating rice, I would be glad to help and give it up. It is not like without rice, I would not survive, there are countless numbers of scrumptious food that does not require rice such as laksa, satay and fish head. I know that Singapore buys food from other countries across the world as we do not have much food supply. If natural disasters happen in other countries that Singapore buys food from, a huge amount of food supply will be decreased, like how Indonesia wants its people to eat less rice and more sorghum as they have extreme weather conditions, both floods and droughts for the past few days. Unhealthy food choices tend to be cheaper than healthy food choices. Many studies show that unhealthy food is $1.50 cheaper than healthy food per day. Although I eat unhealthy food once or twice a week, I would still try to have a healthy diet.

Rice consumption is without a doubt significant to me.Yet being asked if I would give up rice, even if it's for a short term, to help our environment, I, for one, without hesitation, will delightedly do so.Even though rice is and always has been a large part of my life, or the environment i will unquestionably give it up owing to the fact that my comfort together with my wants are not as important as our precious environment, the sole reason that i am until now thriving as a human. And yes, I also eat rice because I am proudly Asian. In my opinion, an unhealthy diet would actually be more costly than a healthy one. This is because a Big Mac from McDonalds would probably be more expensive than a salad, which you can actually make at home yourself free of charge. (besides the cost of the ingredients itself). In conclusion, i think what Indonesia is doing certainly is working and it should happen worldwide.

Yes,I think that an unhealthy diet is cheaper than a healthy diet because compared to a healthy diet of vegetables, fruits and grain.this is because fast food and snacks are cheaper and more satisfactory than fruits and vegetables. For example, I know a lot of people who would rather like to eat sugary food and drinks to bread and milk. furthermore , fast food branches like KFC and Macdonald's sell way cheaper food compared to normal restaurants that sell food with below average nutrition. so this is why in a blink of an eye, it is simplistic to know that to lead a healthy lifestyle ,you need to be rich. In a nutshell, I think that it is good to strike a healthy balance between unhealthy and healthy food and exercise regularly, and would like to encourage people to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

I also like to eat bread-based things, but I would never eat sorghum. It sounds disgusting and I would never in my life eat it. That means Indonesians are okay with anything just to be healthy. Rice is basically my staple food. I would be willing to give up rice for a short term because there are many other alternatives such as couscous and bread. There is hunger and food insecurity in Singapore because many people like to waste food, so a lot of food goes to waste. People think they can just waste food like that because they think that they have a lot of money and they can buy more food.

Rice is very important to me. It is one the main foods that people around the world, of different religions, eat. I think that I would be willing to give up rice, even for a short term, to help the environment. Because rice is not the only thing I have to/can eat. There are many other things to eat. Like noodles. And maybe instead of rice, I could eat sorghum. So, I would be willing to give rice.

As a small island nation, Singapore lacks natural resources. It imports more than 90% of its food from more than 170 countries and regions. The reality is that about 10% of Singaporean households (citizens and/or permanent residents) in this nationally representative study of close to 1,200 surveyed households experienced food insecurity at least once in the last 12 months. Low income is typically positively correlated with the experience of food insecurity; this report reiterates that income is a persistent factor in food insecurity, with 79% of the reasons cited for food insecurity being centred on financial constraints.

I think that a unhealthy diet is much cheaper than a healthy diet. Because healthy diet sometimes involves lots of vegetables and most likely organic ones. And when it comes to organic food, prices increase a LOT. Compared to an unhealthy diet which will most likely/sometimes involve fast food which have no nutrients or iron to keep your body healthy and fit while a healthy diet does. I know because if you go to any supermarket, buy an organic vegetable and compare it to a burger from a fast food restaurant, the prices will very much differ.

Thank you for reading!

It is eaten as a porridge in Kenya, turned into drinking alcohol in China, and popped like popcorn in India. This is sorghum, an ancient grain with many uses, and a part of people’s diet around the world. But sorghum also has a bad name. Just because it is grown and eaten by small-scale farmer, the grain is considered by many to be food for peasants who can’t afford anything else. A few important grass cereal grain crops eaten around the world are rye, rice, oat, proso, barley, quinoa, wheat, corn, buckwheat, sorghum and millet.
