Thurgood Marshall decided to go to court against University of Maryland School of Law because they were rejecting black applicants due to their race. 
SWEAT V. PAINTER
 African American named Heman Sweat applied to the University of Texas law school for a better education. The ¨black¨ school wasn't giving the same academic caliber as the white schools. 
These and many other cases was for the same reason and caused the Brown case to have more evidence.
