Hello! My name is Nur Aliya Safiyyah Binti Abdullah, but you can call me Alee. I'm a student at NUS with a passion for photography, and I'm always eager to learn and explore new things. I was born on November 28, 2006, in Kelantan, where I lived for 14 years before moving to Kuala Lumpur at the age of 14. I enjoy being a calm and composed person, and I also love the color green. I'm an ambivert, and I truly appreciate and care about the small things that happen in my life. One more thing – I absolutely love listening to music, especially by Nadin Amizah. Her music has a retro, calm, and uplifting vibe. My hobbies include sketching and watching K-dramas, especially thrillers. If you're into K-dramas, I would recommend The Judge From Hell (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) .ᐟ.ᐟ

When I was 16, I dreamed of becoming a meteorologist because I was fascinated by weather and forecasting. I loved experiencing all the different phases of nature and weather. But Allah knows what's best for me. I wasn't sure what to pursue, so I prayed to Allah and decided to go with the flow. And here I am, studying nursing at IIUM (though I was encouraged by my mom, Ummi). But it's okay; she knows what's best for me. My mom is a nurse at Hospital Ampang, and she's really skilled – she knows everything about medicine. I’m enjoying my nursing studies and hope to work in the Surgery Department one day!

As for my achievements, I managed to get an A in Sejarah (History) during my SPM exams. I honestly thought I had failed, but I ended up with great results! Alhamdulillah.

20 Dec 2024

The lesson I gained during the first week of usrah was about manners (adab). Nowadays, many people no longer prioritize adab and instead act rudely. People often say, "Didn't their family teach them?" However, this isn't about others, but rather about ourselves and the path we choose to take. We know what is right and wrong.

As Muslims, we must learn from the Quran and Hadith about how to uphold adab. Adab is essential in shaping a person's character. Without adab, our lives hold no value. Remember, adab reflects a good Muslim.

As a student, adab is crucial when seeking knowledge because it is about attaining blessings. Without adab, our knowledge becomes meaningless as it lacks blessings. So, learn and uphold adab in your pursuit of knowledge and in life.

It highlights that treating them with kindness, patience, and love isn’t just a good thing to do—it’s a religious duty.
The speaker explains how the Quran and Hadith emphasize the high status of parents and the rewards of honoring them. It’s not just about providing for them but also about speaking to them gently, being patient, and making sure they feel loved and appreciated, especially as they grow older.
The video also reminds us that neglecting or mistreating our parents is a serious sin. Even if we have disagreements, we should always be respectful and avoid hurting them with our words or actions. At the end of the day, our time with them is limited, so we should cherish every moment and do our best to make them happy.
In short, the message is clear—parents are a blessing, and treating them well is one of the most meaningful acts of worship in Islam.

Nature In Islam

14 Feb 2025

In Islam, appreciation for nature and the environment is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). Islam emphasizes that nature is a sign of Allah’s creation and a trust (Amanah) given to humanity. Muslims are encouraged to respect, protect, and live in harmony with the environment. Here are some key aspects of how Islam promotes appreciation for nature and environmental stewardship:

1. Nature as a Sign of Allah’s Greatness (Ayat)

The Quran repeatedly invites believers to reflect on the natural world as a manifestation of Allah’s power and creativity. Trees, rivers, mountains, animals, and the heavens are described as signs (ayat) for those who contemplate.

“And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers; and from all of the fruits He made therein two mates; He causes the night to cover the day. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Quran 13:3)

2. Stewardship and Trust (Khilafah)

Humans are considered stewards (khalifah) of the Earth, responsible for maintaining balance and avoiding corruption or destruction.

“It is He who has made you successors (stewards) upon the earth…” (Quran 6:165)

This concept implies that protecting the environment is not optional but a moral and religious duty.

3. Prohibition of Waste (Israf)

Islam condemns wastefulness and encourages moderation in consumption. Even in times of abundance, believers are taught to avoid excess.

“And do not waste, for Allah does not love the wasteful.” (Quran 7:31)

This principle applies to water usage, food consumption, and resource management.

4. Planting Trees and Caring for Animals

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of planting trees and taking care of animals. He said:

"If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (sadaqah) for him." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

This shows that even small acts of environmental care are rewarded by Allah.

5. Protection of Water Resources

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught the importance of conserving water, even when performing ablution (wudu), saying:

"Do not waste water, even if you are at a running stream." (Sunan Ibn Majah)

This highlights the value of natural resources and the need to avoid their misuse.

6. Maintaining Environmental Balance

Islam encourages preserving the balance (mizan) in nature. The Quran mentions that everything in creation has been made in perfect balance, and humans should not disrupt it.

“And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance. That you do not transgress within the balance.” (Quran 55:7-8)

7. Avoiding Corruption (Fasad) on Earth

The Quran warns against causing corruption and destruction on the Earth, which includes pollution, deforestation, and harm to ecosystems.

“Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set in order…” (Quran 7:56)

We covered the requirements, what invalidates fasting, Sunnah practices, and its virtues. Ultimately, fasting is a means of spiritual purification, earning rewards, and seeking Allah’s mercy. May we all strive to observe it with sincerity and benefit from its blessings.

Assalamualaikum everyone. Alhamdulillah, we’ve reached 2025 and it’s already our final semester here at CFS. Time really flies. Today, we’re continuing from our previous usrah session — Usrah 1 — and this will be Usrah 2. Since it’s been a while, let’s take a moment to refresh and reconnect, not just with the content, but also with each other. Our usrah is not just a routine; it’s a space for us to grow, reflect, and support one another as we move towards the end of this meaningful chapter in our lives. So let’s make the most of this time together, insyaAllah.

As Muslims, our acts of worship aren’t just routines we go through, they’re meant to shape who we are. Through consistent ibadah, we slowly build and develop hikmah, or wisdom, which includes the positive values that guide our thoughts and actions in everyday life.

But that journey starts with something simple yet powerful our niyyah, our intention. When we set the right intention before doing anything, it gives our actions purpose and sincerity. It's a reminder that we’re doing it for the sake of Allah, not just to tick a box.

From there, it’s about making sure our amal, or practices, reflect what we believe. It’s not about doing things perfectly, but doing them right and consistently in a way that brings us closer to Allah and helps us become better people.

And along the way, we work on internalising ihsan doing things with excellence and sincerity, even when no one is watching. That’s when worship becomes real and starts to shape our character in deeper ways.

In the end, when all these elements come together intention, action, sincerity, and values that’s when we truly grow, not just as Muslims, but as individuals who are trying to live with purpose and goodness.

When we talk about acquiring ḥikmah or wisdom through ʿibādah, we’re talking about how acts of worship shape our character and guide our lives. Each form of ʿibādah is not just a ritual, but a meaningful act that brings spiritual and moral growth.

In Surah Al-ʿAnkabūt (29:45), Allah reminds us that salah keeps us away from indecency and wrongdoing. This shows that one of the wisdoms of salah is how it disciplines our soul and keeps our actions in check.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183) speaks about ṣawm (fasting), saying it was prescribed so that we may attain taqwa. The experience of hunger, patience, and self-restraint teaches us empathy and God-consciousness valuable traits that shape our decisions and behaviour.

Surah Al-Tawbah (9:103) tells us that zakāh purifies us. It’s not just about giving money; it’s about purifying the heart from greed and strengthening social ties through compassion and care for others.

And in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197), ḥajj is described as a time for spiritual discipline avoiding arguments, bad behaviour, and sin. It’s a journey that trains the heart to be humble, patient, and focused entirely on Allah.

All these forms of worship help build the wisdom we need to navigate life with purpose, self-awareness, and strong moral grounding. That’s the real beauty of ʿibādah it transforms us from within.

Salah is more than just a physical act it’s a spiritual connection with Allah that requires our full attention and sincerity. To develop khushūʿ (focus and humility), we must prepare ourselves properly before entering prayer.

The first step is ṭahārah, which includes wuḍū’ or tayammum. Purification is not only about cleanliness, but also a way to mentally prepare ourselves to stand before Allah. It reminds us to approach salah with respect and awareness.

Next, we must fulfil the conditions for the salah to be valid (ṣaḥ). This includes ensuring the prayer is done within the correct time, facing the qiblah, covering the awrah, and making a sincere intention. These conditions help set the right mindset for a meaningful prayer.

Knowing the pillars of salah is also essential. These include key actions like standing, reciting Al-Fatihah, performing rukūʿ and sujūd, and the final sitting (tashahhud). Missing any of these can invalidate the prayer, so understanding them helps us focus and perform salah correctly.

Salah is also made flexible to suit different situations. Whether we’re travelling (qaṣr and jamaʿ), feeling unwell, or performing nawāfil (voluntary prayers), Islam provides ease so we can maintain our connection with Allah in any condition.

In short, proper preparation helps us pray with presence. When we take care of our physical, mental, and spiritual readiness, it becomes easier to feel khushūʿ and that’s when salah truly transforms us.

Salah is not only an obligation it is a training ground for the soul. When performed with khushūʿ, salah nurtures deep virtues that shape a Muslim’s character and way of life.

One of the core values developed is al-ṭāʿah, or submission and loyalty to Allah. In salah, we follow His commands wholeheartedly, showing our obedience in both body and spirit. This submission builds loyalty to our faith and reminds us that our lives revolve around His guidance.

Salah is also a form of jihād not the physical battle, but the inner struggle to stay focused, sincere, and consistent in our worship. It’s not always easy to maintain concentration or to wake up for Fajr, but doing so strengthens our spiritual discipline.

Another important virtue is muḥāsabah, or self-reflection. In the quiet moments of prayer, especially during sujūd and after taslim, we are given space to reflect on our actions, seek forgiveness, and renew our intentions.

Salah also instils ʿiffah, which is modesty and self-restraint. Regular prayer reminds us to stay away from sinful behaviour. As the Qur’an says, salah prevents indecency and wrongdoing it keeps our heart in check.

Lastly, tawaḍḍuʿ humility is at the heart of salah. The act of bowing and prostrating reminds us of our position as servants of Allah. It teaches us not to be arrogant, and to always rely on Him.

In essence, salah with khushūʿ is not just an act of worship it is a process of becoming a better, more grounded person.

Fasting during Ramadan is much more than abstaining from food and drink it is a powerful act of worship that shapes our character and strengthens our relationship with Allah and others.

One of the main virtues developed through fasting is ṣabr, or patience. By holding back from basic needs like eating and drinking, we learn to control our desires and endure hardships with calmness. This patience extends beyond fasting hours, helping us face life’s challenges with greater strength and resilience.

Fasting also teaches us takrīm respect and deference. We become more mindful of the blessings we often take for granted, and more respectful towards those who are less fortunate. This respect deepens our empathy and encourages generosity towards others.

Finally, fasting cultivates raḥmah, or friendliness and compassion. Experiencing hunger and thirst firsthand softens our hearts, motivating us to be kinder, more caring, and more understanding towards others in our community.

In short, fasting is a means to develop patience, respect, and compassion, turning us into better individuals who live with empathy and faith.

(Bukhari)

This shows that true fasting involves spiritual discipline, helping a Muslim purify their soul, improve their behavior, and grow closer to Allah.

Zakāh and ṣadaqah are more than just giving money; they are powerful acts of worship that teach us important virtues and strengthen our relationship with Allah and the community.

One key virtue developed through zakāh and ṣadaqah is tawakkul, or reliance on Allah. When we give from what we have, we trust that Allah will provide for us in return. This reliance frees us from fear of loss and deepens our faith in His mercy and wisdom.

Another important virtue is ukhuwwah, or brotherhood. Giving zakāh and ṣadaqah connects us with others, especially those in need. It builds a sense of unity and compassion within the Muslim community, reminding us that we are all responsible for one another.

Through these acts, we learn to trust Allah more and to care deeply for our brothers and sisters, strengthening both our spirituality and social bonds

The acts of Ḥajj and ʿUmrah are profound journeys of faith that teach us valuable virtues and bring us closer to Allah. Beyond the physical rituals, they hold deep spiritual lessons that shape our character.

One of the central virtues learned from Ḥajj and ʿUmrah is al-taḍḥiyyah, or sacrifice. Pilgrims leave behind their comfort, wealth, and daily routines to perform acts that require patience, endurance, and giving up personal ease. This willingness to sacrifice teaches us dedication and reminds us of the importance of putting Allah’s commands above our own desires.

Another important virtue is taqwā, or God-consciousness. The pilgrimage is a constant reminder of Allah’s presence, encouraging us to be mindful of our actions and intentions. Experiencing the unity of millions in worship strengthens our awareness of His greatness and our need to live according to His guidance.

Together, these virtues make Ḥajj and ʿUmrah transformative experiences, helping us grow in faith, humility, and devotion.

As we continue our usrah journey, it’s important that we always aim to improve, not just in knowledge, but in how we apply what we learn. One key area for improvement is consistency. Whether it’s attending regularly, preparing ahead, or sharing reflections, small efforts can make a big difference.

We can also work on strengthening our bond as a group. Usrah is more than just a discussion session, it's a support system. Showing care, listening to one another, and helping each other grow in faith can make the sessions more meaningful.

Lastly, let’s apply what we learn in our daily lives. When we truly practise values like patience, sincerity, humility, and avoiding sin, it shows that our usrah is making a real impact.

Together, with sincere hearts and small steps, we can keep improving for the sake of Allah and our own growth.

This semester’s usrah has been a meaningful journey of learning and self-reflection. Each week, we were reminded of how our daily acts of worship — like salah, fasting, zakah, and hajj — carry deep values that can shape our character and bring us closer to Allah.

One of the biggest takeaways is that worship isn’t just about rituals — it’s about how those actions help us grow spiritually, improve our behaviour, and treat others better. From learning about patience during fasting to humility in prayer, every session gave us something to reflect on and practise.

This usrah also reminded me that improvement takes time. Even small changes, like renewing our intentions or being more mindful during salah, are valuable steps forward. And being in a group that reminds each other of Allah has made the experience even more special.

In the end, I’m grateful for the chance to learn, reflect, and grow — not just individually, but together as a group on the same path toward becoming better Muslims.
