Keckley and Douglass have very similar stories and thoughts upon on the negativity of slavery but how they feel working for their master holds differences and also similarities. For example Keckley feels bitter and like she doesn't believe she is worth anything while Douglass feels as if his master is entitled to him both his mind and body.

Keckley's master is nicer than Douglass's master. When Keckley asks for her freedom her master talks about how she could just run away but she still had the opportunity to buy her freedom. When Douglass asked he was denied and his master basically told him he would be there forever and never get his freedom, so he decides to run away. Ultimately Keckley is okay with working for her master but Douglass is not.
