A: Yes, I have experienced online learning since the introduction of Covid-19 circuit breaker in Singapore.
G,E&P: During this period, I had a month of full Home-Based Learning. Lessons were conducted via Zoom or uploading assignments in Student Learning Space or Google Classroom.
I would need to log in to SLS and Google classroom daily to check on the announcements and assignments. Sometimes, I will need to go to Zoom to listen to what my teachers have to say about our homework.
C: Although it was challenging to adjust to this new mode of learning, I have managed to overcome it.

A: I prefer learning in a physical classroom setting to online.
G&E: I think that learning in a classroom environment will be more conducive for learning. For instance: Classrooms have topic-related materials that students can refer to during lessons. In addition, there are science laboratories with specialised apparatus and instruments for students to do experiments. Although there are online portals to offer tools to recreate learning experiences, it is not as effective as doing hands-on activities in school.
P: In my school, the classrooms are like a learner's home. Each classroom will have necessary materials to enhance students learning experience.
In contrast to that, at home, I might get distracted by my sibling. I am also situated in an environment that is more used for resting than studying. So, I find myself sometimes not so focused in the lessons. Moreover, the teachers who are conducting an online lesson through Zoom will have to wait for students to enter the meeting. Otherwise, the students would miss the important parts of the lesson. As a result, it would waste precious time.
C: Thus, I prefer to learn in a classroom.

A: No, I do not think that online learning can replace classroom learning.
G&E: Firstly, having a face-to-face interactions among students in class is not the same as having face-to-face interactions in online learning.
Secondly, in school, the teachers are always present to teach and see students understanding of the topic. Teachers will also be able to identify any gaps in learning of students in school.
Thirdly, some students might be playing games online instead of listening to the teacher teaching. As a result, they would not know how to do the homework and use the incorrect method which would result in the wrong answer.
Lastly, Since some classes are early in the morning, students who wake up late would miss the important parts of the first lesson.
P: I rely a bit on my teachers, especially when I am doing tough questions. This assures me that I can seek help from my teachers if I encounter any difficulties.
C: While I prefer physical classroom lessons to online learning, some of my classmates prefer learning online to physical classrooms. They feel that online learning is definitely better and a lot more convenient. I think that online and physical classroom learning have to exist in order to harness the best of both worlds.

Yes, I have experienced online learning before!
Due to covid-19, we had a home-based learning period, we had a new timetable, our teachers also assigned us online homework to be completed!
during home-based learning, every day we will have to enter google classroom to check for the zoom link, even our tuitions were also arranged online.
Personally, I enjoyed home-based learning as I can learn at my own pace, and I was able to go back to the online questions that I did wrongly. Not only did I learn more through online learning, but also understand even clearer about the topics my teacher covered on Zoom.
My teachers were very understanding towards us as it was our first time having online lessons.
It was a fun experience and I don't mind having online lessons again but I think it will be better for us to conduct lessons in school. :>

A: Yes, I have experienced online learning. G: All Singapore schools started full home-based learning amid a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases in the community in May. E&P: Students were provided instructions to follow, we were all supposed to check online learning platforms like SLS regularly as lessons would be conducted online. Teachers would then post the zoom code for all of us to be able to enter the zoom meeting and start lessons. We were also assigned both online and offline assignments.
C: I think that it was a very unique way of learning and I enjoyed it.

A: I would prefer learning in a classroom to online.
G: Online learning requires motivation to complete tasks, stay engaged, and make progress. When I am not surrounded by classmates and teachers in a physical setting, it may be tempting to procrastinate. Some of my classmates also shared with me that they start out fully engaged and then discover that their motivation wanes overtime. However, when we learn in a classroom, we can concentrate harder on your learning because there'll be less distraction than if you were at home. Sometimes when we learn online, we often find ourselves staring at the refrigerator or holding a device and playing games.
P: During zoom lessons, we might occur some problems and teachers have to waste a minute or two just to make sure that all students have joined the meeting.

G: Students feel that online learning is impersonal, isolating, and non-interactive.
E: Humans are all social creatures. If online learning were to replace classroom learning, we would lack social interaction and it might affect our mental health. It leads to feelings of loneliness, lack of motivation, and isolation. Don't we all feel the empty void when we don't get to see our friends? Students may also feel heightened anxiety about keeping up to date with their school work. In classroom learning, once we face difficulties with our school work, we could seek immediate clarifications. We would also be able to feel the physical presence of our teachers and classmates and we would feel less lonely and more motivated.
P: During home-based learning, it was challenging but we learnt to adjust and adapt to changes. Overtime, we managed to overcome initial difficulties. Although home-based learning was difficult, we felt that online learning also has it's own benefits, we get to work in our own pace and we do not need to travel in order to attend lessons.
C: We had the best of both worlds but I still think that classroom learning is much efficient than online learning.

A: Yes, I have experienced online learning before. In fact, just last year, when COVID-19 hit, schools had to close and Singapore went into Circuit Breaker where all students had to stay home and learn online using platforms like SLS (Student Learning Space) and Google Classroom.

G: SLS (Student Learning Space) is a really good platform for teachers to assign homework like revisions and home with Self-Directed Learning. Whereas Google Classroom is more of a platform where teachers can send homework that is needed to be completed faster or meeting links so students can join immediately.
E: When teachers send homework/assign homework to students through SLS, the students will not be notified of the homework unlike google classroom. Although they both seem quite similar, students cannot comment or talk to their teachers through SLS, unlike Google Classroom. SLS is also a useful platform as it will inform you of assignments that are about to be due. Everything is arranged for us. Google classroom is connected to many apps like Gmail, YouTube, google meet, google duo etcetera. This gives it a disadvantage and an advantage. It is a disadvantage as there are many options to choose from, making it much more complicated to use. However, it is balanced as it has an advantage of being able to do many things like calling your teachers, meeting up with them online. This, SLS cannot do.

G: One way to call our teachers is using Google meet. This app is connected to Google and it is used very often. However, an app that overtakes it is Zoom. Zoom is very protected, especially by the Singaporean Government. It has passwords so it is most often used. If it is a meeting with many people, zoom would be used.

P: I remember, during the circuit breaker period, Our teachers would make use of everything to teach us. It was fun to wake up later than we would usually do when we need to go to school. Making online notes is also much easier as we can move text around to make space for more instead of erasing or putting carrots. I realize that I am more effective when it comes to writing down my notes instead of typing it down so I often use apps where they allow me to write and move my words around like OneNote and Samsung Notes. It is very useful and I use almost all the time.

C: During the circuit breaker was an enlightening time as I could learn more about what's online and how to protect myself online. I think it was a fun experience and I would definitely be up for it if I had to do it again.

g + e : it was an interesting experience and it tested my self-discipline. a lot of discipline was needed as my parents could not be there watch over me every minute and i was not under the watchful eyes of my teachers, therefore, i had to practice self-discipline by not doing other things during online class, finishing my homework on time and not rushing it at the last minute. i would also like to add that our teachers were very patient and understanding towards us during this online learning period. we were very new to using online technology to conduct lessons and our teachers had to teach us how to use it and it may deem difficult most of the time. i really appreciate the effort and dedication that our teachers put in to make this home-based learning efficient. our teachers also conducted live lessons through zoom or google meet. they sent resources and online assignments through google classroom and sls. it was an interesting method of learning.
p : during the home-based learning this year, i actually encountered a few problems going into different study platforms and had to communicate with my teacher to help resolve the issues. despite the fact that teachers have to handle many things , have bigger fish to fry, they still set aside time to help me with my problems and were patient with me.

A: I personally prefer to be learning online.

G: From my experience before, when learning online, we can wake up later than usual and just join meetings. This is much more convenient as we do not need to wake up early just to travel. This gives me more sleeping time and other time to eat my breakfast.
E: On a typical day where I have to wake up to get to school, I would usually wake up early and packet my breakfast to school to eat there. This way, I can reach school earlier. However, by learning online, I do not need to go through all this trouble.

G: Learning online is also much easier as we have the comfort of home while learning. It also is much more convenient.
E: As I said before, I can turn on the air-conditioning and drape a blanket over my shoulders. I can also eat snacks while the teacher is teaching and go to the toilet whenever I need to. Besides that, I can also record the lesson so that I can re-listen to what my teacher has taught me. I can watch it again if I missed out something or simply don't understand something. The best thing about staying at home and learning is the "home" part. Often, people are more relaxed when doing work at home because our home gives us a sense of belonging and comfort, a place where we sleep and eat.

G: Of course, people also think that learning in classrooms are better.
E: Mostly because the teachers are able to see the students and know if they are paying attention during lessons are playing games. Another reason is the fact that the teacher is unable to see what is going on on the student's side. The student could be chatting online or even playing games online. It does not even need to be online. Some students also have parents and siblings who are also working from home. Sometimes, they might accidentally enter the room or distract the lesson in some way. So, a bigger percentage like the classroom despite the comfort of our homes, as they treasure knowledge more than comfort.

C: I personally prefer learning online to learning in the classroom. Some might think differently, but I think that learning online benefits more than it harms me.

A: In my opinion, I think that it depends on how much technology has advanced. Of course currently seeing it, it would not be able to replace classroom learning. However, my opinion might change over time depending on the technological advances in the future.

G: Currently, technology only allows us to see and hear things. It does not allow us to smell, give or take things on the other side of the camera. This makes it hard to give in homework, receive gifts etcetera. We have to put all our homework online.
E: Although this might seem as an advantage, it is not. Looking at the screen for long periods will definitely hurt our eyesight. People will definitely have to buy spectacles and more just to be able to see things clearly. Because we look at the light that is given off by the computer for long periods of time, it hurts a mechanism in our eyes which ultimately causes blurry vision and bleary eyes. Sometimes our eyes will water to warn us of this. So, we need to take breaks from the computer. If we learn in a classroom, it does not hurt our eyes as much as on the computer. Of course, as I said before, it is much more convenient to be learning from home. However much I like it though, I still cannot have it all the time because it is harmful to our eyesight. If technology improves and creates a device that will not hurt our eyes as much, it might be a better option to be learning from home. However, technology has yet to improve to a state where objects can be passed through the computer like teleportation. This is the only inconvenience of learning online left. Objects to be physically passed to one another has to go through transportation first.

C: Thus, my conclusion is that learning online will not be able to replace classroom learning until it has reached a point where teleportation and devices that do not harm our ophthalmic health can be made.

g + e : it enables us to have real-life interactions with our classmates and teachers. we can also do group discussions. as social creatures, it is crucial and vital to socialize and interact with others. i also prefer to learn in a classroom as when we learn in the comfort of our own home, it will tend to make us unproductive and loosen our self-control, leading to us not paying attention during class and doing things that are unrelated to the lesson. when we learn in real life and under the observance of the teachers, we will be able to focus during lesson better and absorb the materials taught.
p : i remember returning to the classroom after two months of home-based learning last year. everything felt so different, the atmosphere, the feel of everything. i could focus so much better and learn better in the environment. during online lessons, sometimes the teacher might lag, or my internet connection might not be too good and this will affect the effectiveness of classes.

g + e : in classroom learning, the teachers can keep a constant watch on us and be on the lookout for the aspects where we are weaker at and help up improve. online, however, the teachers will struggle, trying to figure and find out our weak points to assist us in that area. real life classes let everyone interact with each other, instead of behind a laptop screen. learning online can make students feel disconnected. and nowadays, as technology advances, the students will rely heavily on social platforms like discord, whatsapp or other for communicating with their peers. being young, they will not understand the impact of their words and this can lead to misunderstandings, arguments and eventually, the burning of bridges. however, classroom learning can reduce the chances of misunderstandings happening.

p : i remember that during online learning, it was kind of a mess. i couldn't really capture the material the teacher was teaching and i was all over the place. but when i came back to school, everything was much easier.

I have experienced online learning before due to the Circuit Breaker that the government imposed last year due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Singapore. During Circuit Breaker, I could not go to school as all school were closed. So, the government switching learning to Home Based Learning. Teachers could conduct lessons digitally via online learning platforms so that students could continue learning. In order to submit our work, teachers had to give assignments and other important announcements via SLS and google classroom. Sometimes, the teacher would not give assignments via SLS and google classroom but tell the students directly what to do during the online lesson. During Home Based Learning, I was able to adapt to learning at home instead of being at school.

I prefer learning in a classroom to learning online. Firstly, the physical presence of the teacher makes students more attentive during lesson and absorb the information that teacher has taught the students. I find that online lessons are harder to learn compared to physical lessons because there is no physical presence of the teacher. Secondly, we can seek immediate clarifications in a classroom. We can ask the teacher questions during physical lessons. However, we can rarely do so during online lessons as the teacher might not notice the students have a question. Thirdly, internet connections. Online lessons rely on the internet and your internet connection. If some students internet connection is not strong, the online lesson video and audio will become unstable and the student cannot pay attention to the online lesson properly. So, the student will not be able to capture what the teacher is saying and cannot learn as much compared to learning in a physical setting. Even if the student tells the teacher about this, the student would rejoin the online lesson. Doing this, the student will miss entire parts of the lesson depending on how long the student takes to connect to the online lesson again. So, I prefer learning in a classroom to learning online.

Yes I have. During this pandemic, us students have experienced a period of online lessons for not one, but two times! The virus outbreak had worsened and we went into Home-Based Learning where we had classes at the comfort of our homes. I would have to log onto different learning portals every day for the homework. I remember complaining about always having to wake up early and why we could not just wake up later and have lessons at th comfort of our homes. But after the Home-Based Learning period my mindset had changed as the homework load on websites were hard to keep up with. But luckily, we are back to face to face lessons in school.

Yes, I have experienced it. During the circuit breaker period in Singapore, all the students are forced to do home-based learning. We were stuck at home doing this for two months. We were using platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet to conduct live lessons. For work we use platforms such as Koobits, SLS, Google Classroom and many more. Although we already have work to do online, we also have to do paperwork that was given by our teachers before the circuit breaker started. We had many online and offline assignments to complete and it was a very unique and enriching learning experience as our teachers started using padlets and google classroom to share some extra knowledge beyond the classroom syllabus to enhance our learning. However, home-based learning has its downfalls too. Without the physical presence of a teacher, some students may tend to go onto other websites to game or chat while the teacher is teaching, we may also become lazy and not do our work. In the own classrooms, we can always go to our teacher to seek immediate clarifications, but during home-based learning, the amount of student-teacher interaction would decrease. At first, it was challenging to adjust and adapt to the sudden change, but we were able to overcome the initial difficulties in the end.

So, if I am at home, I will usually complete my work later than expected because I am distracted with other things such as my handphone, my laptop and many more. Although i believe that online learning cannot replace classroom learning, i think that we should harness the best of both worlds, by use the internet to enhance our learning.

No, I do not think that online learning can replace classroom learning because the environment for these two places are very different. The classroom is very noisy and it is much quieter at home, so the focus is different. Meeting face to face in the classroom and meeting face to face online is also different. When you are online, you can lose your focus because of the distractions around you and no one will be there to remind you to stay focus. However, things are almost the opposite in class. The teacher can remind you to stay focus when you are not concentrating in class. Thus, I do not think that online learning can replace classroom learning.

Yes, I have experienced online learning. It was during the Covid-19 period when we had circuit breaker and had to go through HBL. I had some difficulties like network problems. Sometimes, when my network is low, I get kicked out of the meeting and miss some important points my teacher has said. Sometimes my wifi also lags. When I have a question, it takes quite long to have my questions answered as the teacher may not see me raising my hands.

I have experienced online learning, during the circuit breaker period last year.

During this period, COVID-19 was surging in the entire world. Singapore went into full lockdown and schools in Singapore were all shut down. In order for learning to continue to take place, home-based learning was conducted for all students, via a video calling website called Zoom. Google Classroom and Student Learning Space is also used where teachers assign assignments for the students. As much effort as the teachers put in into making the students productive at home, it does not work nearly as well as being in school live. Students will get addicted to their computer and play too much computer games, affecting their studies. But, there were also benefits of home based learning. We could study at our own pace, so if we could not cope, or thinks that the classes' pace is too slow, we can study freely.

Yes I have experienced online learning before. Since the Covid-19 outbreak we had to stay at home and teachers had to conduct lessons online. Before Circuit Breaker, the teachers gave out the worksheets to the students for Home-Based-Learning. They had to prepare slides and videos in case some students did not attend the Zoom or Google Classroom meeting. It was challenging to adapt to the new type of learning but I managed to get used to it

I prefer learning in a classroom. I think learning in a classroom is better because the teachers can physically teach us and we can ask the teacher questions physically too. We can also go to the science laboratories in school during science lesson to carry out experiments which we most likely don't have at home. Plus, the teacher can supervise us in case we got injured or did something dangerous. So I prefer learning in a classroom.

No I do not think online learning can replace classroom learning. It is because it is not the same as a face-to-face learning in school. Students can be away from the device and the teacher won't even know about it. Students can also be using another tab instead of listening to the lesson. So when the work was assigned, they would not know how to do it as they were not paying attention to the teacher. The teacher or the students can have poor wifi connection and might disconnect from the meeting room so the lesson could stop halfway or the student missed a part of the lesson without the teacher knowing about it. I rely on my teachers because when I do not know about something. So without them there to help me, I would get lost with no one to help me. I could ask my parents to teach me but sometimes they do not explain properly or do not know how to do it. So I think it is best to learn in school face-to-face.

Yes, I have in fact experienced online learning and I am certain most Singaporeans have too. Last year, a few days after the Chinese new year celebration, Singapore went into a nationwide lockdown due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. We all had to go online onto zoom and we had to use google classroom to submit and do work. Most of us struggled to pay attention. A lot of my friends were online playing games when they were supposed to do work. But in the end, we had to go back to school during June. Teachers had given us three weeks to hand in homework as most people did not finish it.

I prefer to learn online as sometimes teachers do not do their lessons so I can do homework or play games to cure my boredom. It is also very convenient as our recess is at 9 am and to be honest who eats a meal after eating breakfast at 7 am? It is more comfortable to sit on a high-quality chair compared to plastic chairs at school. But we do have to cut them some slack they do have to buy several chairs for all students.

No as I think students cant pay attention on a screen so I feel like being in the classroom makes you able to listen as the teacher can see if you are doing anything under the table or dazing off.
