ACT I: Macbeth & Banquo are confronted by 3 witches

The three witches were said to have predict the future and I want to see what future I have. The most important question is whether if I will have a future. As the three witches confronted Banquo and I, they said to me “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.48-50). This means that I will be king, but how I do not know. What will I have to do? When will I be crowned king? How will I be crowned king as the current king is alive and well? I never thought about being the king of Scotland, but now that the witches have given their prophecies, it must be because of my great ambition.
-October 16, 1606

I do not know if I shall continue with the murder of Duncan. I know that no matter how much I yearn to become the king of Scotland, “[Duncan’s] here in double trust: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed; then, as his host” (1.7.12-14) He has been a wondrous king that has done no wrong. However, my hesitation has made Lady Macbeth confront me. Who does she think I am? She questions my strength as a man thinking that I am not strong enough to do what needs to be done. I am no coward! I will do what needs to be done.
-October 17, 1606

Will I be the king of Scotland? I am the Thane of Glamis and earlier I was informed that I had become the Thane of Cawdor, but king? You see, even Lady Macbeth questions how I will take the throne. She has come up with a plan that I will go through because I am no coward! “When we have marked with blood those sleep two of his chamber and use their very daggers” (1.7.76-77) I need to be careful as this could be my only chance at making the prophecy coming true. I must be king and prove to Lady Macbeth that everything I do is to prove to her that I am the man she has always known to be.
-October 18, 1606

I did the deed… I put the dagger through Duncan. Duncan is dead. I keep hearing these voices. Lady Macbeth, my dearest wife, keeps reassuring me that there are no voices and that I have done a noble deed. It keeps repeating things like “Sleep no more!/Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more” (2.2.39-41). If I had done a noble deed like my wife had said, then why am I hearing all these voices. Why do I feel so lifeless? Things are now all becoming a blur. What is real anymore?
-October 19, 1606

As I said to Banquo before “If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me” (1.3.143-1145). That chance has come and I will finally be king. The witches were right and the prophecy will come true. I truly cannot wait to claim my throne.
-October 20, 1606

The witches have said that Banquo will “Thou shalt get kings, though thou shall be none” (1.3.68). What if he births a child and I am no longer king? That shall not happen! I also sense that Banquo knows of my doings to become king. This is not good, it is not good at all. He could unravel all mine and Lady Macbeth’s work. This is a job I must handle on my own. I shall hire murderers to do the job. “It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul’s flight, if it find heaven, must find it out tonight” and my reign will continue (3.1.140-141). Our brotherhood must end here as he has threatened my claim.
-October 21, 1606

I can’t move from this table as what I think is fear is coursing through my body. It is the ghost of Banquo I must be seeing. I said to Banquo “Avaunt! and quit my sight! let the earth hide thee! Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; Thou hast no speculation in those eyes Which thou dost glare with!” (3.4.95-98). He vanished only to come back. This must mean only one thing as it is a sign that "blood will have blood" (III.IV.122). I must go see the witches at once.
-October 22, 1606

I asked them to foretell my future and they still speak in riddles and rhymes and told me to “Beware the Thane of Fife!”(4.1.72) They told me to “be bloody, bold, and resolite. Laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth” (4.1.79-81) I see now that Macduff must be seen with caution, but how can he not be born of woman. What is this witchcraft they have stirred up. I now know what I must do to keep my throne.
-October 23, 1606
