A lot of streetwear brands seem to be very male focused with most new product drops in the male section, less of a selection found in women’s categories. Most social media is male focused with sports such as skateboarding mostly seen done by males - less women featured in the content so you feel they aren’t communicating to you as much as a female

I think women especially younger women are too scared and lack a confidence to express them selfs in what they wear. I think this makes it harder for women to populate more of the street wear culture as even tho they might love the look or vibe of something they might no want to go against what they see their peers and family members wear around them to make what they wear stand out.

I think it’s fab to wear all different fits and colours, some people just can’t find the confidence/ too scared to hear judgment.

i think women in general are becoming more welcomed into the industry but only if they’re petite and skinny. the tiktok trends of girls having ‘fits’ seems to just be tiny white girls who have just bought some stuff from Cow Vintage. There needs to be more big girls represented as well as different ethnicities and disabilities, this would make the community more diverse.

Clothing shouldn’t be intimidating it’s what we use to express our selfs, “streetwear” is a term that can be used to explain many different types of outfits I think people lack education and what it means to have a style. Your style is your own and you should always feel comfortable and empowered in everything you wear!!!

I think because there’s a clear problem with accessibility - streetwear has become so expensive and exclusive now that women feel intimidated by buying brands that expect such a big monetary and fashion commitment from you. Also, because a lot of street wear isn’t typically feminine it can feel difficult to manage a balance of enjoying being feminine and wearing streetwear. There’s also a distinct hierarchy between men/women with men being so much more dominant in the scene - especially in representation on social media, the fashion designers and promoters

It’s a male dominated industry, change is happening and brands are starting to be more inclusive but it still isn’t there yet. Men don’t want to share it maybe? It’s the only place in fashion where they dominate it and there sexuality isn’t questioned

Women are often worried about going into Streetwear as it is not yet seen as ‘the norm’ when it comes to women’s trends, especially with fashion. As more girls/women are starting to experiment with Streetwear fashion a lot have realised that they suit it better! And they feel more comfortable wearing, loose/baggy clothing. A lot of Streetwear brands do not use models on their websites which can make the purchasing experience better as each person can focus solely on the item they like, not the gender it’s ‘meant’ for.

I feel like streetwear has always been seen as a male dominated trend within fashion, therefore girls/women are intimidated. Also I think that the streetwear industry can be seen as very exclusive and more things are catered for men e.g clothing sizes/trainer sizes/better colourways etc. So it almost seems like streetwear caters for men more than women
