The origin of the village is located around the sixth century AD.  under the Langobardics.  According the most ancient news   San Marcellino  was a small village called   “ The Three Towers” (Tre Torri). Subsequently, the name of the village changed into San Marcellino in honour to the patron saint. The new village , being on the border between the Longobard duchies of Capua and Naples,  had  some autonomy until the arrival of Rainulfo Drengot,  a Norman warrior and founder of Aversa. In 862 San Marcellino was at the center of a fight between Landone  II  the Younger and Paldone Rapinato belonging to the Neapolitans. More documented news  about  ours village dates back to the eleventh century, when the Normans came in Southern  Italy, when fiefdoms and baronial rights were installed. The first barons of the village were from the Tovar family of Castile. The Marquis Tovar was succeeded by the ducal family of Noja and, due to the lack of sons, the Prince of Sant'Elia succeeded, nephew of Cardinal Racale di Messina. Later, the feud was sold to the Baron Cafarelli and then passed into the hands of his Sicilian heirs.
After the Unification of Italy, the village  became part of the province of “Terra di Lavoro” ( The Labour Land). After the abolition of this  province in 1927 and the territorial reorganization decreed,  in the Fascist twenty years period , San Marcellino was halved to the benefit of the neighboring municipalities:  Frignano Maggiore and Frignano Piccolo (which became Villa di Briano).

Its fields produce vegetables, apples, pears, plums, peppers, tomatoes, walnuts and an “asprina” grape, from which an excellent wine is obtained.

The road network is efficient, as it is well connected to the neighboring  towns  and to the provinces of Caserta and Naples.

It is dedicated to the patron saint. Its construction dates back to 1125, on a preexisting chapel, located on the eastern side, always named San Marcellino, to commemorate his  passage in ecclesiastical journeys. 
The church was remodeled in the second half of the sixteenth century and in the eighteenth century and finally in 1875 and 1954, when the parish priest, Bernardino Barbato,  had the church extended to the inside. The Neapolitan painter Carmine Adamo painted  the vaults, which retraced the various phases of the religious life of Saint Marcellino. 
 The facade is a typical example of neoclassical architecture, divided by four pilasters, with composite capitals, culminating in a tympanum.

It is located on the oldest street in town, the decuman “ Roma Street ”, which runs along the south side. It has a Latin cross plan, covered by a pitched roof , with a small bell tower on its side and a small sacristy behind the fifteenth-century apse.  The church preserves an ancient fresco on the altar by anonymous author and dating back to the fourteenth century, depicting  Our Lady o Graces with Child on her  knees and  an  unknown  Saint Martyr on the right.  Also on the left of the altar there is a small  niche with  the statue of St. Anthony of Padua.   Behind the Church there is a noble chapel of the Barattuccio baronial family, once feudal lords in San Marcellino, whose  remains are   in the Church of Sant'Anna de 'Lombardi in Naples.

Next  to the Church of Our Lady of Graces  there  is the Mannocchia Crypt, built with bricks and dating back to the Longobard age,  300 AD.  Crossing the entrance to the crypt, on the left there is a small staircase  supported by an arch that leads to the lower room where there are the burial  niches.

It is located in Ducal Square. Originally it was a marquisate palace,  commissioned by the Marquis Iovar of Castiglia in the sixteenth century on a pre-existing turf-rite fort, donated by Charles of Anjou to the French knight Jean Troussevache in 1300. It has two floors.  The imposing 18th-century entrance portal is located in the center of the building flanked by three windows on the right and three windows  on the left.
