I think I have very high standards for a government, but generally living in America, and looking at the state of the world, I have low expectations. I see so many issues in this country and around the globe, and I believe that the government could be doing better. There is so much homelessness and poverty, and sometimes basic human rights are not granted to women, people of color, and lgbtq+ members. As for the class, I have high expectations, and am excited to learn more about our government. I feel like I follow politics very closely, but I would like to know more about the technical terms and what certain things mean in the government.

I thought the interview was really interesting. I strongly believe in equal rights, and found it inspiring listening to the struggles of these two women. The lengths women had to walk in order to be accepted (hiding pregnancy, and even working for free) was admirable. It was not fair however, that it took that long and that much effort just for literally half the human population to be able to become a member of the Supreme Court. I am grateful that those two women fought the battle, but I definitely don't think we're quite there yet in terms of equality.

- I really like the reading of the Declaration. I think that it was easier to understand the list of grievances, because it showed actual people expressing the complaints. However, I thought the rest of the document was better understood read, so you can see the powerful writing.
- My favorite part of the Declaration of independence are the Preamble and the Declaration of Rights. I think the writing was extremely powerful. The message was important and I think it is applicable to all spans of time, not just the revolution.

1. I thought it was a very good movie, and I wasn't expecting it to go into the corruption of some branches of government and political machines. I think it was a good movie to display how important freedom of the press is. I believe there should not be censorship, so the people are not misinformed, or told lies, like Taylor tried to get happen. My favorite part of the movie is when the filibuster happened, because in my opinion that was when the real action occurred. My favorite character was Clarissa Sanders, because she was smart, kind, and outspoken, during a time where women weren't expected to be so hardworking outside of the home.

2. Considering how Mr. Smith did not wake up at the end, the obvious thing to do next is to show him waking up, and breaking the news that he succeeded in breaking the political machine. The aftermath would also what happened to the members, specifically Taylor and Paine. I think they would serve time in jail, or face the other possible consequences. I also think there should be a scene where Smith and Paine make amends, or at least have a civil conversation. Next, Smith and Sanders get together, and Smith remains a Senator and opens up the boys camp where he wants it. A positive homecoming.

3. I am going to compare and contrast Mr. Smith to Rep. Rodney Davis. I think they are both similar because they both come from small, humble beginnings. They are both loyal to their respective state, and chose to study and live there. Davis and Smith are both patriotic, and want to serve their country in some way. I think there are notable differences between the two however. For one, Smith did not choose or aspire to be a politician, unlike Davis. They both however volunteer their time and strive to provide for the youth of their community.
