How are ELL Students Accommodated?

In Mr. Brody's classroom, most of the students are minority students. Half of the class are students that speak 2 languages, mostly Spanish. Each of these students do not have issues with speaking English and Spanish, but students may struggle with learning new vocabulary words that they have never heard before. The ELL students have a difficult time pronouncing new words, but this could also be because the class I observe is a CA/IEP class only. Mr. Brody does not address this possible issue, but Mr. D, the SPED teacher, does address issues such as these. He aids students in reading and pronouncing large words. ELL students in the school are only addressed by the SPED teacher. It could be beneficial for students and teachers if students were given the opportunity to be taught through both languages. Since languages are not really emphasized until high school, EGMM could truly benefit from having students focus on the art of languages. It would also create a greater ability for diverse schools such as EGMM to become very successful, and boost the minority communities.
