God guided John to write letters to the churches he led, so the people could learn the correct teachings of Christ. This was to help correct the false teachings they listened to.

The relevance of the Bible verse in Wonder, comes right after Auggie is born. The nurse was trying to comfort Mrs. Pullman after she was told Auggie may not live through the night. The nurse was telling her to have faith. I also think that the relevance to Wonder is that people at school and around town bullied him and he had to just believe in God and trust that he would make his life better.
