Chapter 2 - Shades of Truth...I found this fascinating.  We have a saying "speak your truth", but do we really mean it?  Will we, in our equity group, finally find the courage to "tell the truth"?
2. As I observe my colleagues I wonder.....are we telling "gray lies", "white lies" or "blue lies" today?  Or perhaps they are "red lies"?
3. I value the importance of always being grounded in my work.  Specifically, I have always fervently believed that as long as my focus, intentionality, energy and dedication is to improving the lives of our students I can "drown out" the madness that sometimes in our environment.
4. I evolve as I develop a greater understanding of human nature and the motivations that drive the adults, in particular, to make the choices they do.  How can I harness this knowledge in such a way as to persuade others around me that focusing on student achievement will, ultimately, be the most rewarding thing we can do?

Observe: I did not want to stop reading to take the IATs because I was engrossed in the book and because I made assumptions about the results.
Value: I value learning about the different social mindbugs and how they can lead to false feelings about people and groups and even affect decisions about myself. 
Evolve: According to the book, trying to avoid judgements may be far more effortful than making them. I loved the realism of stating that there are out-groups, stereotypes, and mindbugs that create bias, but that there is optimism for the future to outsmart mindbugs and not follow our automatic mental system.
O - I observed that I was fully engaged with the voice of the authors, and "chewed" on the research that supported the theses. 
V - I valued the multiple explanations that gave a clear understanding as to why we can't say "I'm not prejudiced," or "I'm not one of those people." We all have blindspots.  There is an automatic and reflect conscious that we need to be aware of.

V - I value the explanations given as we analyze self and the world around me. The book is able to provide examples that resonate with some of my own experiences.

O - Observations are more than using eye sight. We must dig deeper in knowledge about what we see.  It would also do us good to first assume best intentions.
V- Value the cultures of those around you even if they are different from your own.  Just because your culture may be seen as a dominant one, it doesn't mean that everyone else has to mimic that to be valued.
E- Everyone needs to realize the origin of this country and the thievery that was involved in its becoming. Then dominant cultures may not want to believe so much that the land actually belongs to them.
