What would be the best way to decrease these high rates of obesity and its consequences?

Answer: To change Mexico's unhealthy habits that we have created such as not eating at the same hour, skipping food times, eating junk food everyday, skip medical check ups, among others. Those habits must be removed in order to decrease the obesity rates. Education in Mexico is the clue to the solution of this problem, since we have seen that the government does not care at all for obesity.

What role do you think the government, population and multinational food companies play into controlling, reducing and/or incrementing diseases primarily caused by obesity?

Answer: The government should be the one that keeps encouraging people to take care of their health because it is a human right that we all must have. In addition, having access to free medical service along with information about this problematic must be mandatory because it is a right of public health. That's why Mexico has such high rates of obesity, since the government does not care at all for this issue. Also, when people have this diseases along with others derived from it, the public hospitals doesn't count with the correct tools and infrastructure to take care of the patient, so this is a right that the government is depriving from people.

Mexican families tend to eat unhealthy, or skipping food times, or drinking soda instead of water in the food hours, our consuming junk food because of their work. Those unhealthy habits have caused the increase of obesity in Mexico and if people do not attend to medical check ups because their afraid of what the doctor might tell them, then the situation gets worse.

Do you think that, to some extent, they have helped prevent obesity in Mexico?

Answer: Stamps on products might be a good preventing measure, but the issue is that they are not applied properly. For example if you go to the supermarket and see a product that is supposedly healthy with a label of excess calories, or excess sodium, or excess sugar, people will start to ignore these types of labels since they are not applied on products that really cause damage to the person, and they will think that none of the lables are correct.

As we already know, the labels of the Ministry of Health were implemented to raise awareness of the population and restrictions were made in Oaxaca so that children do not consume junk food, taking your research into account, that Do you know a strategy (it may have been applied in another country) to reduce adult obesity?

Answer: A few years ago, President Barack Obama implemented physical activity in private and public schools in order to reduce obesity since an early age. However, when Donald Trump won the elections, this strategy ended. But the USA government said that this strategy have worked in a proper way the time that it lasted.

Do you believe the new sticker system from Secretaría de Salud has more political than health implications?

Answer: That's totally true, as we have seen this label strategy is a bad implementation of what the government should do. Mexico has an uneducated society which believes that the government is doing the things right, but instead the government just wants the attention of the uneducated people which is more than the half of the population in order to convince that they are doing an amazing job. This strategy is just a lie that the political parties wanted to spread, so that the society thinks that they are actually taking acre of this problematic, but if you take the time to reflect is just a bad implementation which consisted on putting label in EVERY FOOD PRODUCT.

What alternative can you suggest to the government to make beside the new label system on food ?

Answer: A good alternative that the government should implement is to give a subject directly related to health including this chronic disease, among other eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, etc, this subject must be implemented in both private and public schools. In addition, another alternative is to encourage the population to go to medical check ups in public medical services in order to monitor their health.
