1) Biology is essential because Aquarists work with sea creatures.
2) Statistics so they can make diagrams of the increase or decrease of the population of a species so they can evaluate the threat of extinction.
3) Mathematics in general so they can make precise planning of their actions or make probability diagrams (with the help of statistical knowledge) in order to predict either the probability of extinction of a species or the increase in its population
4) Be a great swimmer: When working with masses of water such as seas and oceans being a great swimmer can help to collect samples
5) Science in order to understand sea currents and other laws of physics which can help understand the problems and lead to a conclusion
6) Chemistry so they can make diagrams (again with the help of Statistics) in order to understand for example if the CO2 Concentration plays a big role in the increasing temperatures (See the diagram on the right-hand side of the screen)

Many Species don't have the ability to cope with changing temperatures. Laboratory data available for marine fish and invertebrates from various climatic regions led to the hypothesis that, a mismatch between the demand for oxygen and the capacity of oxygen supply to tissues is the first mechanism to restrict whole-animal tolerance to thermal extremes.

More Here: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/315/5808/95
