I honestly did not like this article. The girls have an extreme connection to their phone and it's unhealthy. The huge amounts of sleep loss just to get up every two hours to text a boyfriend or sleepless nights is rediculus. My boyfriend and i both go to school he lives in guelph and goes to school at conastoga college and if we were to stay up all night talking neither of us would be able to go to school because we would feel dead. I disagree with everything that they stand for on this topic because with sleep deprivation comes mental and physical health concerns. Like taking your phone to the bathroom to keep updated while in the shower. The most I use my phone for in the shower is music not to text people. I don't understand how people think it's a good idea to constantly be on your phone. I hate being on my phone constantly. It gives me migraines. I don't understand how they have not felt the short term affects of constant phone use. The long term affects are going to seriously hurt them and they will regret the constant usage of their phones.

I don’t know anyone that puts that much thought into tags on Instagram or purposely wakes up every 2 hours to check their phone. I agree social media can be the cause of alot of anxiety and sadness but I also believe it’s a great place to reach out to people as well.

Now, to be cool, you have to be on Instagram and post the cool pictures that everybody likes, and have a lot of followers."

So we should be doing drugs? Some parts of the article I agree with, such as the anxiety that may come with phones, or the reduction of social interaction. However, the article seems to be viewing the issues as extremes, and over dramatizing in the name of journalism.

Some people have a hard time disconnecting with social media and connecting with the real world. People don't talk face to face anymore they would rather text each other. There weren't very many aspects of this article that don't connect to me. I'm not the type of person who has to always be on social media. This article made it sound like every girl is the same.

I do agree with some aspects of the article, however I do think the article was a bit dramatic, also they selected a very specific group being tennage girls. I think that they pick and chose what they wanted to present and made social media sound like an extreme cituation when it isn’t that big of a deal. Teenagers in this generation are smoking and drinking less compared to past generations, also there’s less teenage arrests. Teenagers may be going through a social media addiction, but they are more driven to be a better generation than past ones.

I think this article was very extreme and did not accurately depict what social media is really like for teens. The author was going for a shock factor to better grasp the attention of the reader, and in turn made teenagers today look bad. Some aspects made sense, like the decrease in rebelliousness, because we do spend a lot of time on our phones; but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing entirely.

I relate to a lot of the content but over the years I’ve learned to simply do the minimum of what is important to me because I’m too busy. For example, I don’t see the point in sending a blank screen saying streaks because thats basically faking the friendship because your eyes not actually talking about anything meaningful. Or if you interrupt and kill a meaningful conversation by simply sending streaks. There’s many people that don’t go to extremes as these girls do but mostly it’s true

Of course there are the odd people that do seriously have an unhealthy obsession with their devices, but that’s usually not the case with most teens. Social media and technology can be harmful, but it’s also extremely helpful. We shouldn’t let the few examples such as these girls, generalize our generation.

I would say a truth from this is the pressure of posting on social media and what people will think of your post.

As much as I love social media and agree with the girls on some aspects, I also think that they take their social media a bit too seriously. The way the girls stress and obsess over their multiple social media accounts is definitely not good for their physical or mental health. As great as social media is, it also has many negative effects that come with it.

There are some facts that I can't really argue with, because it's statistics but for many of things that the girls said in this article is so over exaggerated. For example, one of them said that " its like breathing" and another said they "wake up every 2 hours" to check on it.

I agree with some of the things mentioned in this article, however I think author could have done a better job of choosing people to interview. The girls that interviewed were all very obviously addicted to their phones and social media accounts, to a greater extent than the average person. Most people have one Instagram account, not five, and they are not constantly posting. I do agree with the aspect that social media is an addictive thing for teens today and that it can contribute to poor mental health, but I don't think the consequences are quite as bad as the author was trying to tell us they are. I think this article is only showing the one extreme and expecting everyone to be like the girls interviewed, which is not true.

"There is compelling evidence that the devices we've placed in young peoples hand's are having profound effects on their lives - and making them seriously unhappy." The problem is stated right here, "young peoples hand's". It used to be you had to be older to get phone, mean while today it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to buy a phone for someone as young as 10. This is a big part of the problem because of the world this opens up to such a young mind, making them think that living on social media is the norm. I think if you can purchase a phone with your own money, you can have one, as at this point you know more about the world and can make better decisions with it
