Pinterest v. Pocket

Pinterest and Pocket both provide a way to organize and sort information from the web, serving as a sort of middleman between the individual and the world wide web. Prior to this class, I had experience using Pinterest to find inspiration for creative works like stories or art projects. Pinterest is most helpful when it comes to visual organization; most of the content on the site is images. Pocket, however, primarily deals with written content like journalistic articles. I am a study abroad student from the US, where I am a journalism major. Having just discovered Pocket, I'm excited to use it in my journalism classes because I'm often asked to bring articles into class. Both Pocket and Pinterest are great for sparking inspiration. On Pinterest, I created a board of outfit ideas/fashion inspiration where I am able to visualize each accessory or clothing item on myself by referring to the pictures. It was tricky to use Pocket for the same subject because fashion is such a visual medium, and I had a harder time navigating the site to find articles about fashion. Instead, I searched for articles about film and media, because entertainment journalism is where my interests primarily lie. In evaluating the pros and cons of these sites, I feel that they each excel in different areas. Which site is better would depend on the particular area one is interested in; a user looking to make a vision board should head to Pinterest, whereas someone looking to read an article should check out Pocket!

Privacy Policy - Spotify

When creating a privacy policy for Spotify, I kept in most of the original clauses. Spotify is a streaming service, not a social media platform, so most of the data is demographic or music related. However, I wanted to be very clear as to what Spotify does with that information, and I wanted to ensure that readers knew they could request to view or remove their personal data. I took out the section regarding international transfer of data and some paragraphs full of legal jargon to ultimately make the policy as easy to understand as possible.
