There were a lot of political problems in the country that many of the citizens did not agree with. The U.S. had a lot of involvement with Iran and America's growing oil consumption caused Iran to struggle. Then there was a lot of little issues that the Shah implemented, like limiting the amount of land people could own. The Ayatollah was eventually exiled from Iran because of fighting against the administration, but most of the population was with him. It lasted for over a year, although the Iranian population did not get what they wanted until January 1979. Women played a huge role in the Revolution. Even though the Ayatollah was exiled from Iran, he still had a lot of power with the population. He was able to get messages to them. The Shah eventually banned demonstrators, but the citizens didn't care. They rallied together on September 8th, which is now know as "Black Friday". Several hundred people were killed in Tehran. Overall, the country was improving all around. This change gave women more rights and they returned to conservative social values. Komitehs patrolled the streets to make sure Islamic law was being followed with proper dress.
