         <title>Early Concepts: Number Sense</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Number Sense is something that it is all around us. It is a common skill that all kids learn at different levels but have to know in order to continue in math. It is something that everyone learns different ways. Number sense is all about numbers and making connections to one another. &nbsp;<br><br>I have tried to use this resource in one of my kindergarten classrooms before. I really like the option to use an activity that is hands on. It is something that the kids really can connect too. I used wrapped candy as my small object because then the kids could eat it. Who doesn't love candy because all kids love it. Kids learn better if they can have things to use as visuals to connect back to the assignment. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Article: Pros and Cons Differentiated Instruction<br>Author: Mike Cescon<br><br>This article talks about the pros and cons of differentiation.&nbsp; The pros in this article are: Students learn at their own pace and in their own way, increases engagement, allows more flexibility/ creativity on the teacher.&nbsp; The cons in this article are: It takes extra time, harder for larger class sizes, harder for inexperienced teachers, not enough research to scientifically prove it.&nbsp;<br><br>I think that differentiation is something that needs to be included by all teachers. Yes it is harder and more time consuming on the teacher end, however it is more beneficial for the students. As teachers you are not teaching to teach. You are teaching for students to gain knowledge and skills for the outside world. There is no reason to teach things to students for them to not understand it and be able to apply it outside of class. As a teacher it is your job to allow students the chance to be successful.&nbsp;<br><br>Differentiation is how we should plan our daily classroom schedules and content around without fail. We are teaching students to learn not to test. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Fact Fluency: Addition UNO</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fact Fluency:<br><br>As a teacher we often think that all basic facts for addition/subtraction/multiplication/division need to be memorized. However memorizing facts is not making them fluent. Memorizing and having fluency are two very different things. As teachers students need the chance to become fluent with basic facts.&nbsp;<br><br>I love UNO for math. Addition UNO is something that 2-5th graders love. It helps check fluency and see how fast they can add two single digit numbers together accurately.  It also gives students a chance to laugh and be competitive in math. Nothing engages upper level elementary students more than a little competition.  It also allows students the chance to just practice and really focus on know the correct answer but not in a 1 minute drill type form. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Growth Mindset is something that all students need and have to understand. This picture stands out to me and we have create one in my classroom this year.&nbsp;<br>Students have to understand that even when things are hard and tricky that you have to keep trying. Not everyone understands something perfectly the first time. That is my kids and adults continue to try and continue to have this growth mindset. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Standards of Math Practice: MANIPULTATIVE&#39;S</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Manipulative's are such an important aspect to a child's everyday learning. Using manipulative's in not just math but all teaching areas is a fundamental tool that they need. Students need the hands on activities to completely understand the concepts. Some students need the hands on tools to build the connections of what they are learning.&nbsp;<br><br>My favorite manipulative's are the cubes or the counters. There are my favorite because you can use them for addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. They all serve a purpose somehow and somewhere. These tools are hands on and a visual for all kids to use. 4th graders really like the cubes because 1 they have hands on but 2 it is something they have used before.&nbsp;<br><br>I encourage using manipulative's all the time in Math and try to incorporate them everyday whether in whole group lesson or in small group lesson.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Facilitating Discourse- Thinking Hats</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thinking Hats are a great way to create a safe and well conducted class discussion.&nbsp; When having a classroom conversation you have to think of ways for effective and productive discussions.&nbsp;These thinking hats allow for students to work in small groups and all have an active participation with others. The students can all take turns being each of the different hats. It also allows students to think bigger and deeper. <br><br>Before implementing the 6 thinking hats, you should explicitly teach the students to use Think-Pair- Share.&nbsp; The 6 Thinking Hats are the following:<br><br>White: " The Facts"&nbsp;<br>Yellow: " The positives and the value"<br>Black: "Risk, Difficulties, and Problems"<br>Red:&nbsp; "Feelings and Emotions"<br>Green: "New Concepts and New Perceptions"<br>Blue: " Teacher"&nbsp;<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Addition/ Subtraction Methods</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When teaching students how to subtract and teaching subtracting, it is important that we are teaching multiple methods to students and not just one way or another way. There is no single right way for all students. We need to really focus on that as teachers and understand kids learn different ways.&nbsp;<br><br>This article talks about 6 methods of subtraction and these are the 6 methods that all of my 4th graders know and use in the classroom.&nbsp;<br>1. Compensating<br>2. Give and Take<br>3. Adding Up<br>4. Decomposing<br>5. Place Value<br>6. Standard Algorithm<br><br>I really like that the algorithm is number 6 because sometimes it is what we want to teach right away but in reality it is not something that we should always teach first. There is more ways to subtracting than just using an algorithm and we as teachers truly need to embrace that in our students.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;When thinking about strategies for multiplication and division there is always many ways to solve these problems. I love this anchor chart as it is one I implemented in my own classroom for 4th graders. It is a nice visual but also something that helps them remember sometimes which one to do. I really think that it is something that when teaching we really need to focus on implementing and understanding for the betterment of our students. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem solving strategies are something that you not only enforce in math, but also in everyday life. These are strategies that help with problem solving in math. I really like that this allows many ways for students to solve in different ways. It also gives a students a solution type station and a resource to look at when they are stuck.&nbsp;<br><br>This is a great poster to have as a reference for when kids get stuck and want to give up. I really like this as a tool for the kids who are struggling a check list to keep on track. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>When we are thinking about lessons in math sometimes it is hard to think of some type of Hook or opener. I really like this site because it gives you an endless amount of ideas that goes with whatever you are teaching. I truly think that having a Hook for students at the beginning of the will increase their engagement and their buy into the lesson. I think that these also relate things to the outside world and it is something many students struggle to realize that times. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love this video as a great class opener. Kids love this video, but it also shows them that it is okay to have a mistake. It also shows them how it feels to teach sometimes. I think that after students watch this they really focus in during math time and listen. I know that my 4th Graders love this video and are so engaged in math now because they know that it is okay to make mistakes but also trying and putting in effort is a big deal. </div>]]></description>
