Religious customs do not go unnoticed in cañete, especially during an important anniversary. In the town of Cerro alegre we celebrate its anniversary every August 15, during this celebration we give an important thanks to God and to the patron saint of the place, the Virgin of the Assumption. The mass is celebrated in a grandiose way around 10 o'clock in the morning, the attendees are the villagers, students and teachers of the parochial schools. The church is beautifully decorated with donations from the villagers, adding flowers on the pews, on the altar and for the sculptures of the saints. The sculpture of the patron saint is placed in front of the altar for all participants to observe. In this celebration so important for the town center, the mass is celebrated with a choir prepared by the students of the schools in charge of professor Amando Peña, and songs are added in honor of the virgin. When celebrating the mass there is a different atmosphere than every day, the people are more cheerful, more participatory, the joy of celebrating one more year of anniversary is noticeable.
