I have found this topic to be really helpful. From my current teaching job I am always keen to hear feedback and to see what I have discussed in a theory class to see what has been retained. I would most likely use the formative technique a lot as I like to reflect back often to gauge how the student has understood things. I will definitely be using these techniques more often and incorporating them in my class. I have tried using online culinary games, paper handouts of crosswords etc and big card games all to address the topics but all in different ways.  

 

I delivered a food standard assessment, I do this on the 2nd day of the intake. After delivering the topic at the end of the day I went through the entire food standard and quizzed everyone. Each time I quizzed one inparticular student struggled while others did it with ease. When it came to marking the tests papers with one final re run of what was spoken about the student still struggled. Her test paper was a huge reflection of her learning difficulties. Had I known this student had difficulty with theory/English/literacy I would have had some extra help available and myself would have given further help. I believe this would come under the formative assessment and would of helped the progress with the student.
