2) How have soft skills helped you in the past either when you were working part-time, or when you were working on a project for school / external organisation.

1) I think problem solving skills is the most important soft skill at a workplace. I personally think that we can follow instructions and avoid mistakes as much as possible but of course, there are definitely times where mistakes were made and we have to make up for it. In times like these, critical thinking is an important skill as we can think on our feet and try to improve the situation. Not only that, conflicts happen among colleagues frequently. Having problem solving skills can help resolve these conflicts by trying to find a common ground where both colleagues can agree on. This thus displays leadership skills which can possibly get you a promotion.

2)When I was working in a group project, I found out that communication skills were very helpful. In a group project, we would often have to discuss and convey our ideas to the team. Since we had good communication skills, the team was able to get things done efficiently. Another soft skill that helped me in a group project is research skills. Even though researching for projects may seem easy, it is actually harder than it looks due to false news on the internet. Hence, it is important to do thorough researches and cross reference different articles to ensure that we have accurate information for our project.

[1] i think that communication skills is the most important soft skill at a workplace. in other to work well with others, be it the people in our team, or clients, we need to be able to communicate well, in a well-mannered and clear way to leave a good impression. as stated in the article, communication skills also allows us to present well, which would be helpful in helping us pitch our ideas to the bosses or clients. being able to communicate well would also help us avoid conflicts between clients or teammates in the workplace.

[2] When I was working part time, a few soft skills have really helped me to survive at my workplace. One of it is communication skills ; when customers are confused about a certain item, i would have to explain it to them in the most well-mannered and clear way in order to not confuse them even further. interpersonal skills have also helped me to work well with my colleagues, despite of the difference in age. it allowed me to compromise with my colleagues for certain problems that we faced. problem solving skills have also helped me a fair bit as my colleagues and i often have to quickly think of what we should do if a certain item has ran out, and how to explain to the customers without panicking.

1) Communication to me is the most important in a work environment. Working with people, regardless strangers or friends, requires open discussions to ensure that everyone is clear on the goal, and what everyone has to do to reach that goal. Be clear with each other and know what everyone is doing is vital for a well organised event, and being able to overcome challenges together when a member faces them. Also, to have a non-toxic working environment, where being professional doesn't undermine a friendship, garnering respect for each other and learning how to differentiate work from personal.

2) During my time in my CCA, NPCC in secondary school, I was representing the school for a drills competition During a drills showcase, we can't verbally communicate as it would risk us having points deducted if the judges heard us. So, we had to find another way to communicate, through continuous practice prior to the competition, and we were better able to work with each other by pointing out places that we could improve on, as a team or individually. This built a team camaraderie, through communication and trust we had for each other. It was fun, and we wanted each other to improve, through our openness with each other.

1. I feel that self-development is the most critical skill in the working environment. It is extremely important to take responsibility of your own learning, whether it be learning how to communicate effectively, learning how to empathise with others or practicing on your expertise in a particular field. An open mind to learning will aid you in grasping the challenging opportunities that are presented to you, and even allow you to create those opportunities where you can grow better as a person. It is important also to shape your values, your morales, and your goals, to have a better understanding of what you want to achieve in life. As long as you have the willpower to take charge of that, I think that you definitely will be able to pick up and/or develop the other competencies and soft skills such as communication, problem-solving etc.

2. Working part-time as a volunteer in the social work sector has really taught me how to work effectively with others and be creative in forming ideas to solve certain issues faced by our clients. I was once tasked to research about play therapy and propose how to incorporate play into a children's literacy programme. By analysing what could be the parents' concerns of the toys involved and whether or not the children would be able to learn more effectively from play, I was able to come up with solutions, together with one of my colleagues, to engage the children better. For example, when creating a worksheet which aimed to teach pre-school children how to understand and identify their feelings/emotions better, we came up with an Inside Out (Disney movie) theme to make the lesson more fun and cute.

I was also given opportunities to manage the publicity, and I had to design Instagram posts to capture the attention of the viewers. Working under my colleague, she has helped to comment on my designs and suggest ways to improve them. She also gave me the opportunity to create the content and caption for the posts, and an example would be a call for donation and why it is important to give back to the community.

Through these experiences, I now have a better insight to working with my community and learning to meet the needs of others around me. It also taught me how to be more creative in my ways of relating to others.

1. The most important soft skill to have in a workplace is adaptability, since working would not only rely on strong work ethic and communication. I believe that there will always be changes at work where you have to adapt as quickly as possible to make sure work is smooth sailing. For example, your company has a new promotion or there is a new system installed in work. Chances are we part-timers or full-timers will have to step up to do our utmost best. Also we cannot take chances where technology could help us, it most definitely can be an affecting factor work and that's when we have to adapt.

2. When working during the holidays, many promotions came up and for someone new to the FnB industry it wasn't very easy to cope especially when your seniors do not have time to teach you well. I had to immediately adapt and work together as a team which is also interpersonal skills. All soft skills are important during my time in the work industry, as working as a team is important and so is having a strong work ethic to help in boosting our own name in the company.

Another soft skill that got me through my 4 months of work was communication, since we are working with not only the service line but also the kitchen crew. This has helped me build more bonds in my workplace and earned many of their respect, because of that, I was always put in charge of closing the store by managing the other part-timers.

1. The soft skill that is the most important would be communication skill. If one is unable to communicate with people effectively, they can contribute very little to the workplace as they are unable to coney ideas, however good they are, or listen to their team members. Unlike communication skill, other soft skills can have varying strength level in team members. For example, not everyone has to be good at problem solving- there would be too many available solutions. Communication skill will be they way in which a person's skills, hard and soft, will be able to contribute greatly to the team. Communication skill is the basis of our society and even more so in workplaces.

2. Soft skill is essential in society. I think the use of soft skill is everywhere. To pin point one it would probably be adaptably which has helped me greatly during my time in student council. Many times, nearing the date of event, there would be last minute changes in location availability or logistics. Adaptability helped prevent me from complaining and waste time dealing with the panic but calmly proceeding with finding solutions and alternative. Most of the time the event would run smoothly despite major hiccups.

1. I think that communication skills is the most important soft skills at a workplace. Good communication skills can help us avoid misunderstanding with people we are working with. Communication helps to clear doubts and improve friendliness ; by actively communicating with your classmates or colleagues , you can ensure everyone is on the right page while working towards the same goals as this helps connecting people together to work productively. To add on , it can also helps in creating a peaceful and open minded working environment for everyone.

2. I was a student councillor back in secondary school. We are responsible to organize and build a safe and fun environment for the secondary 1 students during their orientation. It is crucial for every student councillors to communicate with one another in order for this event to be successful. It is inevitable to have some disagreements when we are working for the event. A few of meet up sessions to talk it out and listen to one another thoughts really helps us to bond as a team and clarify doubts and misunderstandings. Communication ensures us to work effectively as a group and working towards the same goals.

(1) Strong Work Ethic: I believe having a strong work ethic is essential for working, even for students studying. Of course, having skills such as communication and problem-solving skills can aid your ability to perform more effectively at work. However, I find that these skills become overshadowed if we are unable to hand in quality work and/or are a burden to everyone. As someone hired to get a job a done, our boss, coworkers and customers are expecting us to be reliable enough to finish our end of the job.

(2) Soft skills have helped me in areas where my hard skills had no role to play. In my experience working part-time in a hotel, there were little to no hard skills you had to know. Trudging around in flats for 10 hours, serving guests and clearing tables, required me to put on a positive attitude throughout the day. If not, I would not have been able to survive with how tired I was.

As I was working closely with the other workers and with the manager, I had to hone whatever communication skills I had. For instance, in order to set the tables as efficiently as possible, I had to discuss with my coworkers about who was setting up what and listen to my manager to know how and where he wanted up to set the cutlery and chairs. The job could not have been done by the math I learnt in school, so soft skills played a big role in helping me get through times like these.

1) I think adaptability is the most valuable at the workplace. In current day, everything is changing and evolving at a fast pace. Workers are expected to cope with the change that is implemented onto them. Workers that fail to adapt to the new change will fall behind in the workplace and in time struggle to keep up. Being able to adapt to changes quickly will be beneficial for the workplace and the company. If an uncontrollable change is implemented onto a business and they are unable to adapt to it, the workers will struggle to keep up with the new change, spending their time trying to change their old work habits to cope with the new, resulting in not being able to hit their daily quota and not being on task. Therefore, being able to adapt to new changes well is important in a workplace in order to keep up the business in times of unexpected changes in work tradition or consumer requirements.

2) In a group project that I have done, i found that research skills is very helpful. Being able to look for the necessary information that you need for a project will benefit the group into completing the project as efficiently as possible. The project was on environmental features that affects the human health. Google is able to provide a lot of information but sometimes that information is not relevant to the project the group is working on. My group had to resort to reading books of environment, biology, chemistry, geography, some subjects that were not in our subject combination. We also had to look for help from our teachers so that we will get the answers that we need for the project and we can avoid irrelevant information that is useless for the project. In the end, our group had a high overall grade as all our information found from our research can be seen during our presentation for our teachers.

One would often need to convey specific ideas for their work, and be able to listen to their coworkers for their opinions. This would allow the team to work together better and complete the task at hand without too much confusion or miscommunication. Having better communication skills can also allow people to battle handle possible conflicts or misunderstandings that may occur, which allow the team to be more united and produce better results.

2. When I was doing group projects in secondary school, I found that having soft skills such as communication skills, adaptability and problem-solving skills helped me overcome numerous difficulties. For example, when my group and I were trying to think of ideas for our project, having good communications skills allowed us to convey each of our ideas and listen to each other to decide which is the best one. When we faced sudden problems, we were able to overcome them with good problem-solving skills and think of new ways to approach the situation and allow us to finish the project.

1) I think the most valuable skill at the workplace is adaptability. In this ever changing society, the ability to adapt to changes in definitely an important skill set. For example, when the pandemic hit us, many operations in the workforce changed. It is vital that workers are able to adapt to changes in order to ensure that our work still remains smooth, while learning new skills along the way in order to constantly upgrade ourselves.

2) In secondary school, I was a Student Councillor and I picked up a lot of soft skills along the way such as communication and the ability to adapt to situations. Especially in the last year of my secondary school, COVID-19 affected many of our events and at that time we were quite lost, and live streams and google meets were not that known, so we had to work our way around to come up with a solution to overcome the problem. This helped me as I learnt to deal with situations calmly and not panic while finding a solution to it as quickly as possible. Furthermore, when I started work during the holidays, this skill helped me to deal with customers I meet and tackle problems that I face on my own.

1. I think the most valuable skill at the workplace is the readiness to change. As opposed to soft skills like communication and leadership, where the workplace's environment can help foster these skills , one's readiness to change does not come from its environment but from the individual himself. Having the readiness to change is important because no solution or proposal is perfect. The ability to take in constructive feedback and criticism is essential in ensuring that the individual can continue to improve on their craft. Especially with most workplace's placing heavy emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, it is important that an individual is ready to compromise with others in order to find a common solution. Thus, I feel that the fact that an individual's readiness to change is something that comes from within and cannot be fostered, makes this soft skill a very valuable one in the workplace.

2. Having been the captain of my CCA in secondary school, I was tasked with the job of planning and executing a 3 days 2 nights camp. I think this experience was one where I was able to use a couple of soft skills to help me. Soft skills such as communication and the readiness to adapt was a common one. I not only had to communicate with the planning committee but also the teachers. In addition many of our ideas were rejected due to various reasons and that's where I had to adapt and compromise. Even during the execution, it was not smooth sailing, sometimes programs over run while others end earlier than expected, that's where I had to be quick on my feet and ensure everything goes to plan.

Firstly I would like to mention that all soft skills are valuable, applicable and best suited for certain situations and individuals, but for me, I feel that interpersonal skills are most important. This is especially so in the field of work we are currently studying to be in. In any work we would be attempting to do, connections and relationships with people have to exist and be created to achieve a desired goal. Hence having the skill to enhance the chemistry of people working together, the skillset to be able to streamline everyone’s efforts and make converging frictionless and smooth, I find it to be priceless and crucial in any workplace. Without having this necessary human skill, one wouldn’t be able to function as a team, to develop and future relationships with others and most importantly, value add to others in their lives.

I was working as a part-time ambassador at a sports organisation when I was faced with the first work-related conflict in my life. My partner (A part-time employee) was arguing with our manager on the specifics on what we were supposed to do. It got to the point where voices were raised, and it happened so that I was the middleman. I mediated between them by telling them to stop arguing and so we can finish our job and leave, as it was already the time we were supposed to end. I spoke to the both of them, saying that we should not be arguing going nowhere, but we might as well complete the day’s assignment as it was one of the last few days left in our contract. My partner ended up quitting right there and then, and I think that if I remained silent, it would have escalated as both parties refused to back down. Looking back then, I am happy that I knew exactly what I had to do to solve this conflict.

1. first i think that an individual in any workplace needs to have at least a few soft skills for them to excel in their work. I think the most valuable soft skill to have would be positive attitude. Although it doesn't seem crucial on the surface level, and is a soft skill that is often overlooked, having a positive attitude at work brings about a lot of good effects. When you go to work everyday with a positive attitude, you don't seem to dread working. You treat your peers positively and you don't show them any sort of negativity that you feel. You treat your peers with kindness and with a smile. In return, they will treat you back with kindness and will help you when in need. Having a positive attitude will be of most help and will give you an optimistic view. It will definitely help you excel in work.

2. I had a temporary job at a clothing store, and i found that soft skills such as communication skills and being a team player were really important. Communication not only with my peers but also with the customers. I had to understand what the customers wanted, and to communicate with my peers well. Being a team player is also quite important as i had to keep an open mind and not be afraid to approach my peers for help when necessary. These soft skills are important for that job as without it, i would fail and upset my peers and customers. In school projects, soft skills such as being a team player and communication skills were really needed and important in making sure the projects were done well with all of the peers help. Strong work ethic was also needed as we need to meet deadlines. With these soft skills in mind, i found that me and my peers were able to complete our projects the way we wanted to. We were satisfied with the work and ourselves once we were finished with our work. We also could work out conflicts and there were barely any miscommunication or misunderstanding within ourselves.
