According to me, being an international-minded person is to be eager to learn what is going on around the world, what do other people do in other countries in terms of life styles, different cultures, education systems, traditions, customs, in other words, ‘’to be able to see the World from the point of other people’s view who live in other countries.’’

A global citizen is a person regardless of gender, nationality and other individual differences. Moreover, a global citizen can see the world as a whole body and work for world peace who is sensitive to the common world problems and take action when it is needed such as global ecological changes, global warming etc. He/She is responsive to the events around the world because as it is said ‘’what happens over there, it matters to us over here.’’

As the world becomes smaller, it is very easy to reach many kind sources all around the world thanks to the internet. In my lessons, we benefit from websites containing video lectures, articles, essays and other academic materials. We also watch Tedx talks about science. Sometimes we have quizzes on a topic on ‘’Kahoot’’ website. Moreover, we watch videos related to biology.

4. What are the ways in which the texts, topics, or ideas in your classroom have benefited from contributions from other communities, cultures, and nationalities?

Our school is a Project based school. That means every year our students produce projects or attend to the projects produced by others.

In biology and Group 4 subjects, our students are supposed to be sensitive to the world issues such as depletable resources or healthy lifestyle. For example one of our biology Project is ‘’Vertical&Soilless Farming’’ which is a multidisciplinary Project. In this Project, students will be exploring to use the fewer sources and gain the highest product. Besides, in our curriculum our aim is to get student’s attention towards the Group 4 subject as they are inseparable and the problems around the world are also related to the each other.

5. How can you help your students understand the importance of international understanding as it relates to your course?

In our lessons, we emphasize that we all share the same world and as human beings, we all have the same kind of genetic items. We tell our students that, when something is created here, it can be developed there or vice-versa. For instance, when a problem is solved in a country, it is for the benefit of the other people living all around the World such as finding a new cure for cancer. By leading our students think globally, we also help them become an international-minded person not only in Group 4 lessons, but also in moral perspective.

6. What activities have you carried out in your class that have knowingly or unknowingly highlighted or celebrated international-mindedness?

In our class, web ring international science magazines and we want our students to write a reflection paper once a month on an article that chosen by the class. Furthermore, we give tasks in and out of the classroom to draw attention to the global issues such as clean environment. For example, our last activity was an activity concerning the whole world: ‘’Blood donation.’’ On this activity students understood the importance of being beneficial to one person’s life, and this person can also be from another country and everyone can share his/her blood if it is suitable.
