Research was provided that implied that using old models of desk in rows and a teacher desk in the center of the room does not positively affect student learning. When designing a new school we need to implement architecture in such a way we that student learning is impacted. Simply adjustments like lighting, temperature, and decor does affect student performance. If more creative planning went into designing the size of the room and the tools available for use, our students would benefit more positively. We need every school room wired for technology. We need to move past the use of textbooks into a computer/Chromebook for individual student use. Outside spaces around buildings could be used for green space or outside classrooms.

If we look at school design and how it can improve learning, we see that we still build schools based on outdated technologies. The school I am in is completely wireless capable and yet there are whiteboards, textbooks and student desks. This is old technology. At the same time, almost every classroom has Promethean boards and wireless capability. Every year, or every other year, we go through textbook adoption because this is a state requirement. Instead, we should be putting Chromebooks or other forms of technologies in students hands. This would open new worlds and potential for learning would expand.

Advancing Digital Equity

Digital equity refers to the idea of having uneven access to high speed broadband connectivity. This can be a challenge because in today's world and focus on learning through technology, it can be a challenge for some students and individuals to access technology/internet to complete assignments such as flipped class assignments. As a means of addressing this challenge, teacher education programs must address redesign instruction to help prepare new teachers. In addition, companies must be willing to provide discounted rates for internet access. In addition, some even feel it might benefit our society as a whole to have initiative in which all individuals have access to high speed internet and broadband.
