The years of mid-1930s to 1940s; roughly 1943, In Germany, the people were divided into different groups depending on whatever- they were normally groups of youths. Not just any groups though. These groups have a reason for being in that group and a specific "duty" if you may.
One of the two largest groups, the Pirates-are a mix of many adolescents, including Herbert Schemmel, who turned against Hitler; This group is also considered the adolescent's group due to the makeup of kids between the ages of 12 and 17. On a day-to-day basis, they're normally just hanging around during the late evening with their musical instruments. And even often young females.
This "riff-raff" is located in one of the more large areas outside the Hitler Youth. But yet, 'adopted' if you may-a very hostile attitude towards the whole organization. The way this group of adolescence usually go about things were different though because on an average day they're more to be looked at as the more dangerous side of things when it comes to other young people.

Pirates-what happened?....
Legally known as just a big group of adolescence-lots of not listening to what Hitler would say to do so they suffered and got laws/rules laid down for them. Sadly, there were more concerns than just that.
They were highly snoopy and they were led by an extremely bad example which Led to concerns for many. Especially the SS officers because the Pirates would always make the situation worse and negatively influence the youths that were already on the line in the military.
But yet, due to the bad demands and teaching, the Pirates were meddlesome. Proven, that's what is being directed wrong will take you. The SS officers did not want their bad activities, reasoning because it could influence youths that were already in line. And issue them with bad habits.

Depending on the different regions, police waved them away as a nuisance due to the lack of being taught in a mannerly way. Considering, other areas where officials were more concerned, the Pirates would be detained and beaten, their heads shaved to send a message. But they got what they deserved; this group met the awful but progressive brutal reaction of escalating misbehavior to their presence.

Even the Hitler Youths ended up witnessing and actually getting challenged to fights right out in the streets like nothing. Things were serious and they were getting worse-they were just bad; relating to street fights. Many other things happened due to this behavior of destruction; obvious anti-Nazi graffiti dotted buildings, leaflets airdropped by Allied forces accumulated, stuff shoved into mailboxes and around them, etc.

Impact Of The Rebellious Teenagers

After these adolescents refused to obey Hitler It turned so different, for example–whenever speaking out against Hitler and/or the Nazis; It's illegal, meaning ALL rival political parties and their youth groups were banned. The Spies and the Nazi-controlled police would constantly be looking for dissenters. And all of the young people were completely banned from listening to any music in any way that was associated with black and Jewish people, for example–Jazz. The young also were not allowed to travel freely around the country, they could only stick to the towns, villages, or cities where they were registered because of what they have done (not obeying the rules/laws). They not only did everything else listed above but also were HIGHLY pressured by the state to dress in a war/military look/style. One example of the way their appearance had to be is, all the boys needed was to have very short haircuts; representing they were ready to become soldiers. (Ending 'Results')Under the rule made (Nazi Rule), all youth groups were prohibited to go there or having anything to do with anything involving Hitler. Except for the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls. Those two groups separated the young girls and boys, and trained them; boys to be soldiers—girls; to be mothers and housewives.However, the Nazis had many extremely strict ideas about what men and women should do. The different groups would also try to win younger people over; by organizing events like concerts and rallies. Even would do some different days for events by the name of “Sports Days” so kids would be more interested in them.

Erica – Germany, Survived, 16 when arrived at Auschwitz. She doesn't talk too much about her personal experience–kind of just reacts to what Ursla says… seems Ursla is leading the conversation.

Ursla – Poland, (Grew up in Nazi Germany), Hitler Youth Leader, Survived (At the beginning all she knew was Erica was a Holocaust survivor), she was 10 when she joined the Hitler Youth(looking forward because older sister was already in it so she envied her–that's why/how she grew up so involved), At the end of the war (her being 14 going on 15), she thought the world was coming to an end because god was dead. NEW HABIT STARTED 6 MONTHS AGO–wakes up in the morning, brushes her teeth, and starts singing songs from when she was a small child.
