While we pollute the air and earth we also treat this planet and others as if they're nothing to us at all. 

You should enjoy life while it lasts, in the middle of the poem it sounds like Jeffers is telling us that we have no clue when the clock stops ticking, only a slight idea of how long we have left if we live long. So we must not live in the state we are now, we must go outside of the cities once in a while and see what life is like outside.

Life as we know it seems like a trap. The promise of paradise but never the attainment of the promised.
