         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Pre-text<br></strong>Introduction and lead-in e.g get students interested in the topic, initial discussion of key themes, make an explicit link between the topic of the text and students' own lives and experiences, focus on important language that will be in the text.<br><br>First task (pre-reading), e.g predict from some extracted information (illustration, key words, headlines, etc.), read questions about the text, student compose their own questions.<br><br><strong>Text<br></strong>- Tasks to focus on fast reading for gist (skimming), e.g check text against predictions made beforehand, guess the title from the a choice of three options, put events (or illustrations) in the correct order<br><br>- Tasks to focus on fast reading for specific details (scanning), e.g find single items of information in the text<br><br>- Tasks to focus on meaning (general points), e.g answer questions about meaning, make use of information in the text to do something (make a sketch, fill out a form, find out which picture is being described, etc.), discuss issues, summarise arguments, compare viewpoints.<br><br>- Tasks to focus on meaning (finer points, more intensive comprehensive understanding)<br><br>- Tasks to focus on individual language items, e.g vocabulary or grammar exercises, use of dictionaries, work out meaning of words from context<br><br><strong>Post-text<br></strong>Follow-on task, e.g role-play, debate, writing task (e.g, write a letter in reply), personalisation (e.g "Have you had an experience like this one?")<br><br>Closing, e.g. draw a lesson to a conclusion,  tie up loose end, review what has been studied and what has been learned.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Put these illustrations of the text in the correct order<br>- Put these cut-up paragraphs in the correct order<br>- Find words in the text that mean the same as the words in this list<br>- Read the text and find the mistakes in this illustration (or draw your own)<br>- Read the text and make a list of particular items (e.g. jobs that need doing, the author's proposals, advantages and disadvantages, etc.)<br>- Give a headline to each section of the article<br>- Find appropriate places in the text to reinsert some sentences that have previously been separated from the text<br>- Write a reply&nbsp;<br>- Look at the title and the illustrations (but not the text).          <title>Extensive reading activities</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Start at the middle and guess what happened before<br>- Use a key section of the story as a dictation<br>- Create a situation separate from the story of the book and allow students to improvise to see how the characters would behave in such situation.<br>- Students draw the picture of the scene. When finished, they compare and discuss their different interpretations<br>- Interview: one student is a chat show host or a news reporter and interviews another student in the role of a character<br>- Map the story (or one chapter). Draw lines on it to show different characters' movement. Or map out the relationships between characters<br>- Keep a character's diary<br>- Review the book for a TV programme<br>- Redesign the cover of the book.&nbsp;<br>- Write the blurb on the back cover<br>- Blank out some words in the reading<br><br></div>]]></description>
