Flocking is a social behavior performed by animals like herds of bison and birds in the air. Flocking improves the climate where they are, creates more availability for resources and food, and mating seasons. A characteristic of a flock is a large group of similar species traveling in the same direction.

This behavior has become an adaptation because it makes it easier for an individual of a species to escape from predators because they are running in a group. For example, all the bird has to do is to get in front of the slowest bird to survive. Another example is that, without the behavior of flocking as an adaptation, some would be more susceptible to becoming prey.

I personally think that social behaviors is extremely beneficial to any organism on this earth. It creates more of a probability of the organism surviving as well. Benefits of flocking override the disadvantages that it may bring. Flocking is something that is most likely an innate behavior in mammals from adaptations over time.
