Happy birthday Lyka! Thank you for always being there for me when I needed someone the most. Salamat sa pagpapaalala every day (halos) para uminom ako ng gamot at para maligo HAHAHA </3 Salamat rin sa tiwala na binigay mo sakin at minsan nag-oopen up ka (read: pag-iiyak ka bigla) dahil sa stress at pagod sa acads at sa life in general. But there's just so much stories, (mis)adventures, and everything in between to tell you over the past few years, and knowing that I'm the type to write it all, but for a change I'm saving it for some other opportune time that we'd meet. I can't wait to see you again :)

On your birthday, I have nothing else to give but hopes for you to find a love that continuously makes you a better person, that makes you hope against all hope, and a love that never falters especially in troubled times :) You are strong, but when things get tiring, I hope you also realize that it's never wrong to pause and rest, you'll need it to continue. You are so immensely loved by people around you, never forget that.

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water


  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  • 2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • 3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost with "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING. Makes 12 servings.

"PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency.
  • Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla. About 2 cups frosting.

Happy birthday, to the woman who taught me the value of patience and compassion. I know the past 6 months haven’t been the easiest, but I’m glad that we’re trying. Mahal, for a person like you, it’s even harder to do things that are outside your comfort zone, and I would just like you to know proud I am of what you’ve become. Sobrang natutuwa ako for you sa mga nagagawa mo na ngayon na hindi mo naman nagagawa dati with ease, especially your sense of understanding.

Alam mo naman na hindi ako sobrang close sa Kanya, pero I hope you know that I've been trying. I constantly pray for you every chance that I get, especially pag dumadaan ako sa Church of the holy Sacrifice sa loob ng UP bago ako umuwi sa Maayusin. Though, sobrang lakas mo naman sa Kanya, a prayer or two from a defective catholic like me probably wouldn't hurt :))

So, apparently people are supposed to wish things for the birthday celebrant. Well, I wish for nothing more than for you to be truly happy. 

I know what you've been through, and I know how you've been hurt, and how you've been scarred by certain events in your life. Regardless of whatever it is that's happened to you, and no matter how ugly you feel about yourself (which you're not, mind you), I'll be here. I will always be here for you. I'm not the perfect guy, and I am far from it, however mahal kita. Mamahalin kita nang makakaya ko, at iintindihin at tatanggapin kita nang buong buo. It hasn't been easy, pero you know what they say about value, "Things that are easy aren't worth having, and things that are worth having are never easy." 

Kaya here's to your 20th birthday, Lyka! I'm sorry I'm not around to celebrate it with you. Bawi nalang ako pagkatapos ng semester :)
