After an hour's presentation on permaculture and his life story, our favourite market gardener gave us his expertise on our vegetable garden. The children also harvested the seeds for next spring. Parents, teachers and the local community centre were all able to enjoy the session, despite the ☔️

The neighbourhood centre will be taking home a beautiful pumpkin to make us a delicious soup very soon! 😋

When our farmer talks to us about permaculture, everyone listens... "a healthy mind in a healthy body".

The garden is growing with new beds. It's getting prettier with shavings (made in Hautmont) and weeding.

2 hours supervised by our favourite gardener, who has his work cut out with some very energetic little gardeners 🤪

Well done to Ethan, who got the closest to the 21kg orange monster! He went home with a (smaller) pumpkin. This one will be given to the school restaurant for a tasty soup!

On the 9th of November we went to the Guy Maupassant neighbourhood centre, 600 metres from the collège. The parents had prepared 5 culinary workshops for us... apple and pear compote, fruit and cheese toast, tiramisu, crepes and fruit salad.

We are 7th grade pupils at Collège Ronsard in Hautmont. We are a project class called "Nature Class". Our aim is to work on the objectives of 'Sustainable Development' around a shared permaculture garden. We are 24 little monsters supervised by our friendly teachers Mme Cartieaux, Mr Le Boterff and Mr Dubie. We meet every Thursday for 1 or 2 hours.

Dès la fin de l’automne, le hérisson part en quête d’un site propice à son hibernation. Il le choisira à l’abri du froid et du vent, généralement sous un tas de bois, un tas de feuilles mortes ou encore un arbuste.

A small omnivorous mammal, the European hedgehog is both harmless to humans and extremely useful to gardeners. Very fond of slugs, snails, caterpillars and larvae of all kinds, it contributes to the natural regulation of many pests.

At the end of autumn, the hedgehog sets off in search of a suitable hibernation site. It will choose a place sheltered from the cold and wind, generally under a pile of wood, a pile of dead leaves or a shrub.

Sorting properly means preserving our natural resources and reducing pollution. A small daily gesture to adopt!

To raise funds for the ASLM association, which helps children, lemurs and the forests of Madagascar, the nature class is organising a collection of recyclable objects!

Safety, protection, group unity... windbreaks were given to all our students by the college!

A new apple tree is planted at our school!

Après une année de pause pour nous donner le temps de mettre en place tous nos projets (mare, abri de jardin, récupérateurs d'eau, nouvelles planches de culture, serre dôme, etc.), nous revenons encore plus forts pour retenter l'aventure en 2024 avec la Classe Nature!

Mais une nouveauté a fait son apparition cette année. En plus de la Coupe de France, Landestini organise aussi la Coupe du Monde du potager, et nous nous sommes évidemment inscrits!

C'est pourquoi vous trouverez désormais une traduction anglaise de tous nos articles sur le Padlet. L'idée est simple: cette participation à la Coupe du Monde nous permet de voir et d'être vus par les participants du monde entier, et donc nous donne l'opportunité de créer un réseau international avec, pourquoi pas, des partenariats avec des écoles à l'étranger.

Une compétition, certes, mais de l'échange et de la bonne humeur avant tout!

Two years ago, we won the 'I learn, I share' prize in the Vegetable Garden French Cup, organized by Landestini.

After a year's break to give us time to put all our projects in place (pond, garden shed, water recuperators, new growing beds, dome greenhouse, etc.), we're back even stronger to attempt the adventure again in 2024 with the Nature Class!

But there's something new this year. In addition to the French Cup, Landestini is also organizing the Vegetable Garden World Cup, and we've obviously signed up!

That's why you'll now find an English translation of all our articles on the Padlet. The idea is simple: taking part in the World Cup allows us to see and be seen by participants from all over the world, and therefore gives us the opportunity to create an international network with, why not, partnerships with schools abroad.

It is a competition indeed but it's all about sharing and good humor!

When the Maupassant neighbourhood centre welcomes children from the nature class, it always gets a warm welcome. An egg-hunting game played by a team of parents and children that appealed to young and less young alike!

Corn, turnips and sunflowers have taken their place in the garden. The cabbages have been transplanted and the carrots and radishes sown. Now we just have to wait for the sun and warmth.

An intensive year coming to an end with the 1st year of the Nature Class . Last meeting in the garden with Greg and the Neighbourhood Center, but we're continuing to pamper it until September. We're hoping for a good harvest, if our friends the slugs will let us have a bit!
