The main day of the carnival began with a parade of comparsas. I was surprised by how organized they were, each group had their traditional costumes, masks and choreographies. From the improvised stands in the streets, the energy of Cajamarcan music – huaynos and cumbia – did not stop. I found myself dancing, without even having planned it, with people I did not know, but who at that moment felt like lifelong friends.

The most unforgettable thing was the "war" of water balloons and paint. As the afternoon progressed, it was impossible to stay clean, and that made it more fun. In an open area, a child came up behind me and threw a water balloon straight at my torso. I froze for a few seconds in surprise, but soon we all laughed, and I found myself enveloped in a wave of purple and yellow paint, the emblematic colors of Cajamarca.

The days were filled with music, dancing, and the feeling of being part of a vibrant and generous community. I also tried delicious typical dishes: chochoca soup and spicy guinea pig were two of my favorites. The party didn't stop with the night; it continued with serenades and gatherings in the squares, where singing and toasting with chicha morada became eternal.

Cajamarca not only gave me a few days of fun, but also a deep connection with its people, its culture, and its tradition. Carnival is not just a party in Cajamarca; it is an expression of identity and a bridge that unites generations.
