For Dewey, education is active and connected to real life. He didn’t think schools should just be places where students memorize facts for the sake of it. Instead, he wanted schools to create experiences that spark curiosity and give students the tools to keep learning beyond the classroom.

dewey thought a democratic education was one where the educator facilitated the education rather than controlling it, part of this was his belief that it was the educators job to meet the needs of students. Dewey also believed in 'collateral' education which is the belief that students will take away attitudes from lessons as well as the intended knowledge of the lesson.

The quote we chose was "the most important attitude that can be formed is that of the desire to go on learning." Dewey thought that this is the most important attitude an educator can teach their students to prepare them for the future.

It also opens a way to a kind of experience which would not be accessible to the young, if they were left to pick up their training in informal association with others, since books and

the symbols of knowledge are mastered."
