Nic is a studious boy who loves to draw and write. His dad is proud of his writing ability and looks forward to his son's success. Nic had a little secret, though. He got into the habit of drinking alcohol at eleven years old.

2. Call to Adventure

Nic discovers the euphoria of trying "starter" drugs such as marijuana to escape the pressure he feels, keeping it a secret from his father.

3. Crossing the Threshold

As he began to outgrow marijuana and alcohol, Nic starts using ecstasy, mushrooms, and cocaine for a "thrill." His father finds out because Nic came home high one night. Although his father is aware of his drug use, he believes he is only using marijuana, which does not seem like a big deal to his dad.

4. Allies, Trials, and Enemies

Now that Nic's father is aware of his marijuana use, Nic becomes less careful in hiding his other drug uses. He discover heroine and this becomes his drug of choice at eighteen years old.

5. Approach to the Inmost Cave

His father became aware of all of the drugs he was using, finding some in his room, as well as on his person. Nic's father is immensely disappointed in him, and yells at him explaining that he had so much going for him.

6. The Supreme Ordeal

Nic's father sees that his drug addiction is getting out of hand, and sends him to rehab.

7. Reward

Nic explores the world without drugs and sees that he could do so much with his life. He is eventually discharged from his facility.

8. The Road Back

He arrives home and is greeted by his father, who is proud of him for overcoming such a strong addiction. He rekindles the relationship between his family and him, and is on the track to finding out his life.

9. Resurrection

Nic relapses. He wants to celebrate his new-found soberness by going on a drive alone. During this drive, he gets the sudden urge to use again. He calls a friend, and his friend tries to talk him out of it. Nic could not resist. He gets ahold of heroine, and goes into a long binge. This is his worst time period yet, using five times as much as he did before rehab.

10. Resurrection

His dad find out. Nic's dad decides to use tough love on him, and does not go searching for him, nor let him come home. Nic is close to death in an empty bathroom stall when he goes for a walk in an alleyway. After a while, his father decides to go looking for him. He shouts "has anyone seen my beautiful boy?" while going down the street. He eventually finds Nic in the alleyway.

11. Return with Prize

Nic goes back to rehab. The movie ends with an embrace between Nic and his father, symbolizing the love they both have for each other no matter the circumstances.
