First and foremost, something that gets me so excited about technology is differentiated instruction. Students learn in a variety of forms, and it is our job as educators to ensure they have those options at their fingertips to master material. Additionally, I really appreciate that the text said it specifically encourages, and requires, students to develop skills required for life in the 21st century. The world is drastically changing, and the majority of what we do has some form of technology in it. In fact, most of the sought after jobs require computers and software programs.

SAMR model

Substitution: Tech acts as a direct tool substitute, with no functional change.
Augmentation: Tech acts as direct tool improvement, with functional improvement.
Modification: Tech acts as significant task redesign.
Redefinition: Tech allows for the creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable.
I really appreciate this model because it validates the use of technology for any teacher, regardless of their comfort with it. For example, a teacher that may have not grown up with technology may feel uncomfortable with its incorporation, but knows that her students would truly benefit from it. When it gets to the higher level steps, such as modification and redefinition, as I was reading through them I thought of my college and grad school courses and how truly transformational technology was as I shared projects and notes with my peers and professors.

I learned that I am actually pretty uncomfortable when it comes to technology in my classroom. As an AP level course, I should be incorporating all different learning styles into my lessons. Granted, from day to day they have different lesson types, but particularly for those students that are tactile or visual learners, they are often at a loss. I hope that as I continue teaching and I become more comfortable in the classroom, I will also be able to incorporate higher level technology methods that mirror college courses into my class.
