For 12 weeks K-12 students can participate in Workplace Learning Experience. Students find the workplace where they will spend one day a week during the 12-week period. These job placements should  allow students to have an engaging learning experience in areas such as: business/finance, education, digital arts, film, web design, performing arts, law, medicine, and research.

At the conclusion of the experience, students present these projects to workplace staff, parents, fellow students and faculty in a formal Exhibition of Learning.

Schools and educators can implement or encourage students to join tech fairs. For instance, ITEC sponsors an annual student technology fair. The technology fair offers K-12 students an opportunity to showcase technology-based projects. Projects can be around a passion/interest area or created around solving a problem they have identified. Tech Fair projects range from the following list. 

 

A pitch deck, also known as an investor or a startup pitch deck, is a business overview used to raise capital or gain clients or customers. The pitch deck, usually presented as a series of slides on a projection screen or in a PowerPoint, accompanies a verbal presentation. Students can collaborate to make presentations in this format and present it to classmates, community members or stakeholders. This will familiarize students with the process and time necessary to complete this task for careers in business, science etc.  

 

A digital portfolio is a tool that collects the set of content, documents, works, presentations and others with the aim of presenting the best work of an individual or organization, presented in digital format. This can be used to showcase students' art projects, architectural designs, teaching experiences etc.

 

Student lead events and initiatives play an important role in developing student leadership and providing a quality campus environment. Students planning events like school dances, Halloween events, bake sales, give students hands-on experience with running a business. It also highlights all the different factors and elements that intertwin to have a successful business.

These four bullets are skills students are going to need in any field and in all levels of education. Hence my answer to the question. We need to teach our students to think critically and for themselves.

One of the goals of education is to prepare students to learn through discovery. Providing opportunities to practice being critical thinkers will assist students in analyzing others’ thinking and examining the logic of others.

Understanding others is an essential skill in collaboration and in everyday life. Critical thinking will allow students to do more than just memorize knowledge.

Students can benefit in many ways from blogging, especially when leveraging digital tools to build their online presence and digital citizenship skills.

Podcasting 

To encourage students to share ideas, the use of podcasting can be a comfortable way to help students develop their voice and confidence.

Something that has been truly beneficial in my classroom over the past few years is when students have created video tutorials or screencasts.
