The layout of these lesson plans is phenomenal. The layout is as follows: Objective, essential questions, materials, vocabulary, overview, procedure, and an extension activity. 
The purpose of this lesson is to create a safe space for learners to open up and speak about their families with pride. They also get to listen to others' stories and make connections. Brown University has created one of the greatest resources for teachers with English language learners. On this page, there are several links. Each link provides research summaries.  A link to understanding the challenges in each of the components with descriptions and suggestions for educators. This is accompanied by teacher resources that are organized in different grade spans. This is followed by a link to culturally responsive teaching. On this page, there is a full description of this theory along with links to each of the characteristics. With teachers applying these strategies to their lessons learners will have a lower effective filter and will participate in-class discussions and feel safe and confident to share.
This specific link of Culturally Responsive Teaching provides a description of this pedagogy. It has a link to each one of the seven characteristics with more information and resources for each. One of these characteristics is "Positive Perspectives on Parents and Families" which gives a deep understanding of how important it is for educators to keep communication with families. It is described as story time with grandma but instead with the use of the internet, stories from around the world can be read aloud or listened to. Each of the stories on this activity shares different traditions according to religion or culture.
