         <description><![CDATA[<p>1. Visit the Douglas Campus and get to know Douglas!</p><p>2. Always be open to learning. Our students teach us often as much or more as we teach them.</p><p>3. Communication is the most important thing. Pay careful attention to communications with students, peers and supervisor when needed.</p><p>4. Encourage and recognize learners for every effort made.</p><p>5. Ask for help if you need it.</p><p>6. Keep an eye on attendance and use the faculty academic alert early and often!</p><p>7. Take time to get to know your students as people.</p><p>8. Enjoy your time. Cochise is a wonderful place to work.</p><p>9. Ask for feedback and provide feedback.</p><p>10. Listen to your mentor.</p><p>11. Stick to your policies and use your syllabus to back you.</p><p>12. Embrace the support available.</p><p>13. Whatever you do in the classroom, do it enthusiastically.</p><p>14. Bring a change of clothes – you never know what will happen.</p><p>15. Keep working at it. First semester is bumpy, but it gets better!</p><p>16. Do prechecks for your equipment.</p><p>17. Enjoy it! Don’t work too hard!</p><p>18. Trust yourself.</p><p>19. Snacks should be on hand for yourself and students!</p><p>20. Remember – students are human beings with feelings.</p><p>21. Be consistent.</p><p>22. You might not know the answer. But you can always find the right answer instead of pretending and giving the wrong answer.</p><p>23. Be yourself.</p><p>24. Students enjoy using Kahoot! Great way to engage students.</p><p>25. Teaching without active teaching is meaningless.</p><p>26. Just remember you know more than the students do.</p><p>27. Remember that it’s hard to learn if you’re bored. Try to find ways to make your class fun and engaging.</p><p>28. Set up your gradebook plan early. Knowing what goes where will speed up building your course.</p><p>29. Ask for help if you need it! We have a lot of resources for faculty.</p><p>30. Make sure you define your policies in your syllabus clearly.</p><p>31. Be kind. Everyone in academia is smart. Differentiate yourself by being kind and compassionate.</p><p>32. Don’t interrupt students and know their name.</p><p>33. It can be helpful to give students space to speak in a low-stakes environment before they have to contribute to a high-stakes discussion.</p><p>34. Don’t sweat the small stuff.</p><p>35. Come into your class/course willing to learn from your students.</p>]]></description>
