• Nurture religious literacy through broad and deep exploration of religions and worldviews—Christianity, Islam, Hindu, Judaism, Sikhism, other world religions, and non-religious perspectives—reflecting both local and global contexts. 

• Develop pupils’ capacity to investigate challenging questions about belief, meaning, ethics, belonging, and identity, fostering critical thinking, empathy, and mutual respect.  

• Structure learning through the six conceptual pathways (The Nature of Religion and Belief, Expressing Beliefs, A Good Life, Personal Journey, Influence and Authority, The Big Picture), ensuring coherence and progression in each Key Stage.  

• Coverage of perspectives: Planning will ensure a balanced inclusion of Christianity, other principal religions, and non-religious worldviews, tailored to our school’s context while upholding curriculum expectations.   

• Lessons will engage learners in: 

• Substantive knowledge—facts, traditions, beliefs 

• Personal reflection—developing insight and awareness of others  

• Time & Resources: We allocate at least one hour per week to RE instruction in line with statutory guidance.  

• Assessment: Pupil progress will be assessed against end-of-key-stage statements, using age-appropriate expectations to track understanding. 

• Leadership & Oversight: The RE subject lead will oversee curriculum delivery, teacher support, moderation, and monitoring.   

• Community Engagement: RE learning will be enriched through visits, visitor engagement, and exploration of local and global faith contexts.  

• Pupil Outcomes: Evidence of knowledge gain, enhanced critical thinking and ability to discuss sensitive issues, as demonstrated in work samples, presentations, and discussions. 

• SMSC Awareness: RE fosters spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development, cultivating tolerance, empathy, respect for diversity, and the ability to challenge stereotypes.   

• Assessment & Progress: Ongoing assessment against key stage benchmarks shows pupil progress. 

• Pupil Voice- Feedback from pupils about their learning. 

In order to promote understanding and peace between all religions as well as mutual understanding and tolerance between peoples from different backgrounds we will be celebrating World Religion Day in school on Friday 16th January 2026.
