We also email parents before and after each Youth Purpose Summit.

Stretch: how might we involve parents in doing pre- and post-program reflection work with students for travel? How might we create a space where parents could also reflect and ask questions?

In 2 of our schools, the alumni and parents do come in but not in a structured way. If opportunities arise they come in. Another school is more organized in advisory and parents and alumni come in and participate but strengthening that would be good. And the final school just started advisory and they have strong community connections and have speakers come in, alumni could be used more and these speakers are not used in an advisory program. One problem is that the advisory is not very long. Lots of things compete with advisory time. So how do we fit it all in

Strength - We use alumni to come back and talk to our seniors about college life and answer questions, or as panelists on different topics we have, or guest speakers for different workshops. We have used parents and community members sporadically as guest speakers for workshops.

Stretch - We need to create more purposeful structures around using the experiences and voices of our alumni, parents, and community members. Maybe we can create a database of this information to refer to so we can see the wealth of information we have.

Strength: We have a pretty solid community that is involved with their kids such as, connections with Pepperdine University to have graduate students work with the students. There is also the hope for an optimist club at school that connects with the larger community optimist club.

Stretch: there's a LOT of room for stretch for me. We just don't have enough advisory time or enough of a focus on purpose at my school yet to involve parents in it. But I know our parents do a lot of amazing things so something I would love to do is pull them in to talk more about what they do. Possibly having career specific days or periods that the community members come and share? When they come, ask them to have a purpose driven lens with what they say. Maybe prep them with questions about their life path.

Strength - Our work with schools is really about purpose at the institutional level and how everyone "in the building" is critical to shifting the school towards becoming an equity-centered community anchor.

Stretch - How we connect the dots and support individuals, especially teachers, but also non-student facing staff, in that endeavor. Ensuring that schools do deep work around both committing to and holding both the community-centered purpose of the school/institution and the learning and development of students (which are mutually reinforcing!).

Getting advisors engaged in this work would need a great deal of buy-in.
