For the first piece, the author is Crusader Raymond d'Aguiliers, who wrote this in 1099. In the second piece, the author is thirteenth-century Muslim Ibn al-Athir.

2. As mentioned in page 80, a prominent reason that the writers of the accounts wrote about these events was to please a particular ruler they worked for. Another reason could have also been that they wanted to account for the hardships they confronted when the fall of Jerusalem took place.

3. In the first piece, the writer described Jerusalem as a bloodshed because of the immense amount of bodies piled up and exemplifies the intensity of the first crusade there. From his tone and choice of words, he believes that this event was sorrowful and unbelievable due to the amount of damage and deaths. In the second piece, the writer focuses more on the representation of this event through numbers. He talks mostly about the Franks looting items and killing innocent people overtime, leading to the fall of Jerusalem. I can infer that he also feels grief about this event.

4. These accounts are similar because the writers feel the same way towards the even  and both portray the detrimental effects of the first crusade on Jerusalem. The author for the first source was a Crusader named Raymond d'Aguiliers and he wrote the piece in 1099. The author for the second piece was written by a Muslim Historian, Ibn al-Athir. 

2. I think the purpose of writing these pieces was to essentially demonstrate the losses that were faced due to the conflicts taking place. 

3. They both describe the events as being extremely violent and they both demonstrate the losses they have faced in their own ways. For example the Crusade talks about the scene at the Temple of Solomon whereas the Muslim talks about what happened at the Masjid al-Asqa. Both perspectives demonstrate loss and tragedy but in their own ways. 

4. Like mentioned, they both are similar in the sense that they both demonstrate loss and tragedy but they describe the events in different tone and scenery and talk about the scenarios in two different places. Because of the different experiences each one has had, their stories are also different, and that is normal. Like we talked about, everyone will have a different story about COVID. Some stories will be more tragic, whereas others will be more hopeful.
