The conflict that Brian rides in a float plane on his way to his dad's home in Canada when his pilot suddenly has a heart attack and dies. In shock, Brian has to try and land the plane.He soon crashes in a Canadian lake and is faced to live in the untamed wild. In the text it said,"Only white for his eyes and the smell became worse filled the cockpit and all of it so fast,so incredibly fast that Brian's mind could not take it in at first.Could only see it in stages. The pilot had just been talking. Then the jolts had come. The jolts that took the pilot back had come."(Paulsen 6) This shows me that Brian is frightened that the pilot died so fast.

Brian is frightened and quickly abandoned because the pilot had died and had jolts from him dying and moving fast left him alone in a plane going in a place nowhere he knows.

In the text it said,"The bird had sat and he had lunged and the two points took the bird down."(Paulsen 78) This shows me that Brian is more comfortable about surviving and he knows he is alone for a long time and keeps going no matter the reason to stop.

Brian changed by being more confident and being a survivalist because when he first crashed he knew nothing and now he is a survivalist by hunting making fires and creating weapons and tools to survive for a long time.

An aluminum cook set with four little pots and two frying pans it actually even had a fork and knife and spoon a waterproof container with matches and two small butane lighters."(Paulsen 100) This shows me that Brian is overjoyed he has survival tools and can make his problems a bit easier and have useful and more efficient tools for him.

In the text it said,"But when he opened the plastic and took the thing out and turned it over he could see that it wasn't a receiver at all. There was a coil of wire held together on the side by tape and it sprung into a three foot long antenna when he took the tape off. No speaker no lights just a small switch at the top and on the bottom he finally found in small print emergency transmitter."(Paulsen 101) This shows me that now the he found the transmitter and he is relieved that he could be rescued.
