We live in the land of the free and the home to the brave where we are a democracy and vote for what we think is right for this country and throughout our history we have lowered our voting ages until we reached 18-years-old.

What if the aged was lowered to 16-years-old would this affect us in a good way or in a bad way. Do you really trust that 16-years-olds will understand how important our votes are and be trusted with a chance to vote? Kids under the age of 18 are not mature enough to participate in elections.

“It would not matter how smart or how good of a grade a student gets on a test, because the brain of a 16 year old has not fully developed.” says Myers John in his article “Californians could be voting at age 17” The brain will not fully develop until the age 25 or even higher. How would allowing immature kids the right to vote be a good idea? They do not understand how important their vote is and the meaning of voting.

The Voting Age has been the same for most of history it does not need a changed. 16-year-olds should not be allowed to vote. The mind of a sixteen-year-old has not fully been developed and they are still learning so much about life and choices.

If we allowed them to vote they would most likely choice folly rather that be because they were told to vote one way by their parents or others. 16-years-old will use their vote as a joke that can change America in a bad way because they did not listen or research about candidates/props and just vote for someone/something that might be a huge mistake. Sources show evidence of this such as Gilpin Caroline from New York times wrote a article titled “ Should voting Age be lowered to 16.” In the article he explains both sides of the story but agrees with how the age should not be lowered for it will be a mistake to trust 16-year-olds with the right to vote. “ America needs to stay how its always been with the age to vote is at 18.” Where he states “How it works now is perfect because by 18 the youth are turning into adults their minds have developed and are ready to understand how voting works and what they have to do.” When America made the 21th Amendment to allow 18 year olds a vote because there was reasoning behind it because of vietnam soldiers that were 18 that wanted a vote, but what The United States is doing trying to allow 16-year-olds a vote is a wrong move for United States to make.

Teeneagers should have the right to vote because more votes will be in for election and it gets the youth involved from a young age to feel like their votes matter. In the article “Why we should lower the voting age to 16” the author Laurence states that teenagers lack any power when it come to elections and law making. Caroline states in her article that Teens should have voting rights because they are affected by these laws just as much as adults.
In the final source by the Learning Network they state that their opinion was that teens should never have the right to vote but now sees why because of recent election policies and laws passing that very well affect teenagers. When laws start to affect schooling and matters that would affect teenagers they should have the right to at least have a say in the upcoming laws. If we had no say in the upcoming law there would be an uproar and teens are in this position of being affected by law and having no power to change it.
