I still love both aspects of the band's output, but their more experimental albums were a huge part of me discovering what music can be.

Radiohead's roots are strongly linked to this pioneering musical group.Talking Heads' highly influential and innovative instrumentation are part of what inspired Radiohead to be more than a rock band, and their songs share similar unconventional lyrical stylings. It should also be noted that the band named themselves after an obscure track from them, 'Radio Head' (Starkey, 2021).

A pioneering music producer, Giorgio Moroder has been dubbed the "father of disco" for his contributions to the genre (Crae, 2018), and of electronic dance music as a whole (Brewster, 2017). Much of the sound that Daft Punk draw from can be traced to his work, and the duo paid homage to him by including him as a prominent collaborator on Random Access Memories (2013).

Much like Talking Heads, REM's unique lyrical style and approach to music had a huge impact on Radiohead, specifically frontman Thom Yorke, who has listed them as an influence in many interviews. What drew Yorke to the band was REM frontman Michael Stipe's songwriting and stage personality (Fricke 2011), inspiring him to channel that in his own work, even going so far as to claim he's "ripped them off left, right and centre for years and years" (in Draper, 2004).

According to frontman Stu Mackenzie, he was heavily inspired by bands such as Slayer, Metallica, and Motorhead, which all influenced the sound of many of King Gizzard's earlier albums, but especially so their 2019 album Infest the Rats' Nest (Young, 2019).

Music has been a part of my life from an early age. In high school and beyond, I was exposed to classical music and orchestras through my parents and through learning an instrument for many years. This also led to an understanding of music theory. After high school, as I matured, I began to explore music more, starting with classic musicians and expanding out from there. I'm hoping to get a career in sound design in the future; if I do, I have no doubt my musical tastes will influence the way I work.
