The school district where I worked has no diversity in leadership, no diversity among teachers, and I was the only African American on staff at my school site. When the district ran into some racial issues that made it on the news I got involved big time because I had something to say about it. I came back to school because I wanted to validate my voice. When I came across the Community Psychology program it seemed to be a better fit for what I am currently doing in the community and want to do in my community. Understanding how people move through life will give me an advantage in creating and implementing programs in community.
